Icon3 won't start - MIL and crazy fuel gauge

Guys,

I am not a honda guy (I drive a VW - I can hear the flames from here!). I am home for the holidays and my mom's 2003 accord started up just fine then a few minutes later died unexpectedly in the driveway.

I have never seen this in an instrument cluster before but the MIL is on and the fuel gauge keeps on rapidly jumping between 1/4 full and 1/2 full - like a pendulum.

The car doesnt even try and turn over, all you get is flashing MIL and that weird fuel gauge thing.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? I wish I could scan codes but I dont have the equipment with me.

TIA
-peter

sounds like you have a bad battery... Check that first.

first i would check the battery and then i would check the charging system. it sounds like the altenator went bad while idling once you started it. good luck
