Looking into buying a 99 prelude. it is in good shape, but it is throwing an EGR check engine code.

I know this has to do with emissions, but could a clogged EGR make the car bog down a little and stall from time to time?





Just wondering.. Oh and the car is a 99 with a rebuilt h22, slight damage to the hood, and front bumper, but easily fixable... about 65000 miles.

The kid wants 5100 for it. Good deal???

If the CEL code is 'P0401' EGR flow insufficent then the EGR ports in the intake manifold have to be cleaned.

I was able to postpone having to do this to my 2000 TypeSH using this product

After this additive with a fill-up of Shell premium, and about 300mi hwy driving the CEL went away.

 

Yeah, it's pretty easy to clean yourself and when dirty can cause the symptoms you mentioned. Sounds like a decent deal; new hood & fender w/ paint will probably run you around $800 I would guess.

As always, get a compression and leakdown test done to check the health of the motor.

 

Lets start with the actual code number its throwing, what is it? Places like autozone will scan it for free if you dont have the tool. Have them clear it and see if comes back right away. This might help indicate if its a static problem or intermittent.

 

AutoZone will NO LONGER CLEAR CODES, they will just tell you what codes are showing
