Icon2 2006 hydrolocked civic si. need your input.

so i was a little late to work yesterday and so i really wasent thinking of the car... i have a cold air intake and i dint bother to take one of the extensions off to make it SRI... long story short. went over a puddle.. not even that big.. and the motor got hydrolocked. i dont have money for a new k20... but what are the options that im looking at.. what can i do or should i do so that i wont loose alot of cash.. i mean what doeas a salvaged si go for without a motor? by the way its got 34k miles, Injen CAI, HFP lip kit, OEM fogs,17"hfp wheels, Kenwood indash with garmin gps,TEIN springs. and new yokohama rubber...HAte my life.

Stupid SoCal palmdale weather.

take it to insurance, it'll probably get rebuilt at honda.
put the factory air box back on if you're really worried.

as for symptoms.. after i went over the puddle .. i was only like 1/2 mile away from home .. but i heard like ticking... the i was like , crap i better get it home... i only made it to the end of that street before i heard some nasty grinding and then the motor stopped all on its own..

the hybrid motor will need tuning to run properly. youd be better off buying a new motor.

Which, unfortunately, is very common of the import "scene" nowadays. It's disgusting.

Are you sure its hydrolocked? My cousin went through a puddle in his accord and his car shut off. We took off the intake pipe, pulled the plugs out, turned the motor over, reinstalled the plugs and it finally stated again. He got lucky.

G/L to you op, if it did blow that will be an expensive bill.

well im not sure, at first i went throught the puddle and it shut off, then i turned it on .. and there was a ticking sound.. so i was like damn. then it started grinding nasty as hell.. then it started making some kinda loud grinding noise. then it died.

back to it being waterlogged.. would that not just mess my head up and not the block?

A k20/k24 hydbrid probably will not run into the lack of tuning the z3's had if you goes with an a2 or z1 head.

OP: Do you live in California, is so a hybrid motor will not pass emissions.

Why don't you just fix it! Pull the spark plugs out and turn the motor over by hand and get the water out....then take the cylinder head off and check for bent valves. But once you get the water out you can do a compression check and see if everything is still sealed or not

why not? will the ECU compensate for the different motor?

That doesn't always work.

unless he shut it off exactly when it happened he has no chance.

Don't blame the weather....blame yourself. You knew the risks when you made the decision to install the CAI and run over a puddle. And now you've just spent several thousands of dollars just to gain a few WHP.

Next time stick with a SRI...you'll save yourself from a big headache.

Yeah that doesn't sound good......if you hadn't turned it back on you may have been able to save it.
