need a REAL mechs help in the fleet.
If you wanna toss the thread because its not Honda related then fine I thought it would be challenging for yall to help me troubleshoot a detriot diesel
Setup:
3 cylinders
3 injectors
3 fuel injector pumps feeding to the injectors running off the cam gear.
Problem
Misfire and engine overspeed with no throttle applied
I isolated the problem in the #2 injector pump because the unit would not start from the begining I cleaned the inside with PD6-80 and soaked it in JP-5 jet fuel. the unit now starts up but misfires and starts to overspeed.
My Diagnosis:
Timing issue from fuel rack on injector pump. However would a timing problem cause a misfire and overspeed??
I told my production control that it was a timing issue. so I could buy more time. I Posted this to try to get some more opinions. I will continue to trouble shoot and try any suggestions posted.

i have very very limited knowledge with diesel the only thing i can suggest is possible cylinder compression loss.
diesel work off compression ignition. if the piston ring or valves are not sealing right you will get a misfire and over running conditions since their is fuel or oil getting into the cylinder and igniting.
just a suggestion. dont take this info as a guaranteed fix. i try to stay as far away from diesel as i can.

lol, yeah its a pretty big vac leak being a diesel
will that motor run on one cylinder, how hard is it to disable one cylinder at a time. ie, on a gas motor to find the dead cylinder pull a spark plug.
deactivate cylinder 2, see if it misses or overspeeds.

Does the fuel rack move freely? Its gotta feel like buttah. One of those injectors may be stuck open. The overspeed is from too much fuel no doubt...

yes it is a turbo charged very small turbo though...no leaks because everything is welded. its not ebay piping.
I agree that the overspeeding is caused by a injector being stuck open because there is fuel getting to the injectors because I cracked the lines open...
I did isolate the cylinders and came to find out the #2 cylinder is getting the gripe missfire
I dont think its a timing problem because the cams control the injector timing and it ran fine for about a month.
Can too much fuel to a cylinder cause a misfire??
Im going to order a new injector and see if that works. IE Uncle Sams limitless credit card
