Default My 1997 Accord SE is a DOG

Man, when I say this thing is a dog - I mean BAD! I live in an area where there are some pretty big hills, and going up these hills stresses the engine substantially. I could NEVER understand why Honda would make an SE (Special Edition) with a crappy 4 cylinder 2.2L engine (under powered) & rear DRUM brakes.

I want to get some more snot out of my car, and I would like some suggestions if possible. I'm willing to do just about anything (short of replacing the engine with a V-Tech, or a V6). I'm thinking intake, exhaust (headers - flow-through cat), MSD ignition, plugs, wires, and maybe (when all else fails) even a turbo

What can I do to make this dog somewhat decent while accelerating? AND - are these upgrades a waste of time and money? Am I just "spinning my wheels"?

Yeah ... sorry, I should have been more specific. I got the auto because I'm getting older, and driving a stick is a PITA now - especially since my town is growing FAST, and I have to sit in traffic 20 mins a day - So the stick begins to wear on you quickly. Start - Stop - Start - Stop - Start - Stop ...

Sell it and get a newer accord? If forced with an auto, I would take a 6th gen V6 Coupe like Audi2Honda has. They are really nice cars.

I JUST got this car 2 months ago - I it - Except that it's gutless. I like the exterior of the newer Accord better, but the interiors are hideous (IMO - Hey I'm entitled to my opinion)

I'm also comparing it to a BUILT 1990 CRX Si (I sold to get the Accord). The CRX was quick (but not fast) nible little car. The Accord is faster (top end) only because the CRX was so "light" - it wanted to sail away at high speeds.

If I could just get some more power added to the Accord I would be extremely satisfied with the purchase. The Accord is SO MUCH MORE car than the CRX was.

Have you at all thought about a mild shot of nitrous? That might do the trick to give your Accord a little more "guts".

Have you done the basic bolt on's yet? If not, that will also help.

I think the SE has the same engine as the DX and LX, they just give you a couple more "extras" on the SE. I think the 97 SE's have the DX and LX's 130HP and 139lb-ft of Torque and the EX was 145HP and 147lb-ft of torque with VTEC. Back in 93 the SE was the "top of the line" but it became a couple of "extras" car these days.
