ecu tuning options for d16y8
i have an extra y8 ecu my friend gave me ( dunno where he got it.... but w/e) i've been looking around at my tuning options. i know the rock solid way is the obd1 conversion with a p28 or something close to it and put the stock stuff back in come emissions time.
BUT- i would like to know if there are any of those "send me your ecu and it will come back super awesome" services for obd2. just a thought since i've got one just chilin here. i saw this:

but as someone on there stated, where would i go to GET a good programed chip for an ecu that most companies shy away from. Sorry I am uneducated in the tuning aspect, i havnt done much research on the honda engine management systems.

You almost understand it.
Right now- Your option is to go OBD1 or get a piggy back to which i don't like(piggyback) or aem or the new hondata that allows you to use your obd2 plugs but it's still an obd1 board.
as far as sending an ecu off. basically it's chipped and returned to you with a basemap that is "close" to your setup. I've had basemap that were suppose to be right on but were not. I had to add fuel across the board to make it even idle.
So "send me your ecu and it will come back super awesome" don't believe the hip

funny you put that link up, right after i posted i did some more looking and spent an hour reading that article
thank you for all the info
i found a local guy who is selling the hondata ecu that is the built in conversion box set up for s300. The three hondata dealers in my state all gave me roughly a 500 dollar estimate to have the unit installed into the ecu and maybe an hour of tuning. Is there anyone who can cut me a deal on the s300 unit alone or is it a dealer only thing?

You will want to buy from a reputable dealer that has a good background so they can basemap the ecu with a good map for you to start on.
I can't even tell you how many times we have been contacted by people who try to save a buck & end up asking for support on the forums when they should have bought from a reputable dealer.
That's what I figured so I wasn't crossing my fingers. Thanks for your help! All I need to do now is learn how to use the whole set up once I get it! You havn't heard the last of me
