Default Track time

So I went to the track for the second time with my 4th gen with a H22 I/H/E and my times were not as good as I expected. I have had the car for three years now and have kept up with maintence but my times are rather dissappointing...

R/T .205
60' 2.549
1/8 MILE 10.567@68.58
1/4 MILE 16.174@89.76

I just see other ppl talk about how they run 14's with an H22 in a 4th gen, my best time was 2 months ago I ran a 15.7. Nonetheless I was rather dissappointed with these times... my only thought are that the header that I have sucks big time (saving up for an SSR header) but I don't think it would kill my 1/4 that much! During this race I was lined up with my buddies 06 spev-v with I/H/E and I lost by .093 seconds (it was a good race) but should I chalk this up to me being a crappy driver or do you guys think something is wrong with my car?? Car feels and drives great! no cel's no rough acceleration, nothing.... also I am running Nitto 555's 225/40/17. any advice is appreciated. Oh and one last thing these runs were done at a little high elevation 2,400 ft. THX!

post the full time slip information.

Being higher than sea level is definitely a factor.

your 60' is horrible and is killing your times. If you can get it down to a 2.1-2.2, you will be running a mid 15. However, your MPH is a bit low for an h22. You "should" be in the 92-93mph area. What is the latest maintenance you have done? Have you done a compression test? what tires were you using? did you have to let off the gas at all? did you go around the water box?

How are you launching?

New plugs within the last 3 months, dizzy was replaced 2 years ago, spark plug wires are ngk, sea-foamed the motor about a year ago, have a velocity stack on a sri, motor mounts have all been replaced (getting inserts after xmas) fuel filter replaced 2 years ago, timing belt replaced 1.5 years ago, I have a ecu with crome (p72) as opposed to the P13 that was in there, the car runs much much better, however I cannot pass emission with the current ecu ( i just switch them before going) my hydrocarbon count is too high with the crome ecu. I have not done a compression test I really should, this last run I launch at around 2500rpm, if I launch any higher i practically come to a stop on the track cause my tires are just spinning, the nitto 555's 225/40/17 are Z rated and have some aggresive sipes, they are a little old and prolly have about 4/32nd's left on them. Should I launch higher then back off the gas and not floor it off the line? Usually I just dump the clutch and floor it, I shift at about 6800rpm in first then 7200rpm in second and I ping out third at the finish line. I did go around the water box

take 1st and 2nd to 8000 on the tach. On street tires you will want to launch soft and roll into the throttle. Rolling into the throttle instead of punching it will help the tires from spinning. You are running 17" wheels, cant say that is helping you either....

is the crome ecu tuned?

The crome ecu came with a tune on it, I bought it off a h-t member that had a similar set up however he was at almost sea-level I think so I need to get it re-tuned. I am going to convert over to neptune because that it was a really good local tuner uses and it is what 2point6 uses and I work like 3 miles from his shop I dont feel comfortable taking my car to 8k, it just sounds like it crying everytime I do it and I 'feel' a drop off in power... but if you feel that it is okay I will give it a go (of course I will not hold you accountable for anything if something goes sour) my plans are to get neptune, ssr header, euro-r IM from rosko, and S2P1's with a valvetrain upgrade, but that doesnt really do a lot of good if I cant get out of the hole. I will def try launching higher, than backing off and trying to get it to pull a little more without spinning the tires nor any wheel hop.

your launch RPM is going to take trial and error. I wouldnt even be racing with that ecu. It was not tuned for your engine therefore it doesnt matter what setup the guy had before. Neptune is a good move. I'm sure scott will recommend Locash to tune it so you are in good hands in that department.
The engine can take the RPM easy as long as it is tuned for it. I took my stock motor to 8500 when i raced at the track. You gotta get the momentum going and in order to do that, you have to rev it a little higher in the first couple gears. If you can "feel" the power dropping off, then that tells me the ecu is holding you back pretty good. Your engine should be peaking around 7200 RPM and max torque around the 5200 area. You dont want to shift before your engine peaks or at the peak. Plus 6800 on the tach is really closer to 65-6600 and 7200 is closer to 69-7000 rpm. What RPM were you landing at when you shift?

i honestly dont remember what RPM i landed at after each shift. I def want to get my car tunned at locash and that is also what scott recommends... I just dont want to put the money into that, then have to drive up to Phoenix everytime I add extra parts ( I realize my laziness is probably a bad idea) I am really hoping that Scott put in a tuner at his shop, last I heard he was getting a dyno soon so it just make sense. Can I have the P72 ecu that has crome in it now converted over to neptune, or should I just use the extra p13 that I have at home for neptune?
