Icon2 ...wetsanding your headlights...HELP!!!AHH!!

well, i have no experience wetsanding and polishing headlights, so i went ahead and used some of that NEVER DULL something polish on my headlights. I baked my headlights, opened them up, and black housed the insides.. While I was doing this, I noticed that my insides of the headlights were kind of hazy, so I tried using never dull on the insides.. I put it back together, and now they look like **** on the inside AND outside..
I think its about time i wetsand my outsides..
my question is, would you wetsand the inside also?
anyone around CA willing to do this for me? ill buy you food + beer + $$..
i dont want to **** up my headlights and have to dish out another $200-300 for another set of jdm sir-g / itr's.

wtf wet sand ? head lights ? plastic ? WTF ! these DIY methods are getting out of hand, the stuff poor people do to fix up cars ...... look my brother in law owns a body shop they have this clay polish for plastic parts such as head lights it takes off that age look and over spray and dirt. They make it look new and you do this with a high power buffer . wet sanding plastic is a stupid move to do because your taking off the protective layer that keeps it looking shiny and by doing this it won't last more then a year in the weather so your one dumb kid if you ask me ..... GO BUY NEW ONES ! there only 100-200 bucks and if you don't have that low cash then stop trying to fix your car up ....

Ever wanted to know how to remove oxidation from oxidized / yellow headlight lenses? Is easy, there is no magic polish, no magic cream, or magic de-oxidizer its just common sense and being educated about the problem at hand. Plastic headlights go bad because the UV coating that the manufacturer put on the headlight lens wears down after about 2-3 years making the lens look cloudy, foggy, and yellow giving that oxidized appearance. Along with the discoloration / oxidation, the headlight lens takes a beating from the environment such as UV rays, car exhaust, extreme temperatures, harsh chemicals, and debris. This beating leaves the headlight lens with scratches, pits, and a gritty feel, and all of which inhibits light output necessary for safe night driving. All that needs to be done is to remove the "bad" layer of plastic to reveal a "new" layer of plastic by using the right polish clay bar and a high power buffinging machine, then seal the new lens with a new UV coating to prevent future oxidation from returning.

and that my friend is straight from honda help site ..... wow what a dumb azzz/ i hope you feel that much low now, so take your assumptions and ignorant self and go to hell .

and it gets you thinking why no one bothered to open this dumb thread lol yep another dumb azz trying to half azz work .

now.. where does it say anything about color sanding?... where are you getting your information from? why are you changing the subject about how broke I am? im pretttty sure I make more than you on a monthly basis..
im not saying youre wrong, you came at me sideways with this whole issue.
wet sanding and claybar is somewhat the same thing.. they both get rid of all the dirt and old plastic..
whatever if you want to meet up, let me know.
I'd be glad to settle this like men.

who said anything about color sanding my lights? i black housed the insides. like the rest of 80% of all jdm front integras out there. so you have a problem that I blackhoused MY OWN headlights? and how are they knock off? theyre straight from japan.. at the end of the day, you lose. be a man and deal with it.

Just get a 3M headlamp restoration kit. It comes with all the pads and polish necessary to get the headlamps clear. It isn't too expensive at about $15 to $20. I know the actual materials cost a lot less than that but I think the drill attachment is worth the cost for the amount of time it saves.

What the hell is color sanding? Start at 2000, 1500, 1000, (make sure it is NOT P-rated) Mothers aluminum polish, then a GOOD plastic polish. An orbital sander/buffer helps, use plenty of water. Top it off with a good UV protector and enjoy.

See the pics in that linked thread of the Civic and Prelude headlights I restored by using ultra-fine wetsanding (1500-grit and higher) followed by several products applied with my Porter Cable buffer, including Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner Polish as the first step, along with several other polishes and waxes.

I wet sanded and buffed my own headlights back in 2005 I believe, and applied headlight protector film immediately afterwards. Today it still looks clear, with no yellowing, no facing, haze, nothing. I could probably stand to replace the film, but the lenses themselves are still perfectly clear.

curious.... why would you go backwards in grit?

You shouldn't. Start low (relatively, I probably wouldn't go lower than 1000) and work your way up to fine. Also, it's a good idea to sand in one direction with the first grit, and then sand in the perpendicular direction with each successive grit.

So start with 1000 and go left/right (continuous stream of water running over lens)

Then go to 1200 and go up/down. Continue until you can't see any more left/right scratches.

Next 1500, and go left/right again. Again continue until you can't see any more up/down scratches from the previous grit.

Keep going in that same process until you get up to at least 2000 grit, then polish with a machine buffer (preferred if you have it).

*edit* that method on the SRT4 forum is interesting. I've never used any soap or anything, I just use the sand paper with a constant stream of low-pressure water from my garden hose flowing over the lens.

yeah i know... i was just curious why he said "start" at 2000, then list 1500 and then 1000

I might start polishing my headlights again since the semester is over...

i bought a kit that goes all the way to 4000 grit.
