Icon2 98 accord ex heater problem? PLZ HELP MOMA is freezing

Hi all, thanks for looking at this post.

Well my mom 98 Accord ex 4 banger heater blower is only working on the 3-4 setting and 1-2 setting will not work. Is there a relay for 1-2 setting that need to be change? If so, where is it located? If not a relay what could it be? I am very good at working on civic and integra but accord I have no clue on the electrical system and were relay and what not are located. I live in Minnesota and it is freezing cold rite now. I took my mom car yesterday for a day and when the engine is up to temp. as I drove with the heater setting set at 3 (1-2 doesn't work) the engine temp. drop all the way down and blow out cold air. My mom is old and I can't let her drive and freezing in the car like this. So I trade my car until I can fix her car. Please help me out.

Thanks for any help. If you need more info about the car let me know.

There are probably two separated problems for the heater system. One is a blower motor related problem and another is a thermostat or heater valve related problem.

1. The 1-2 speed settings do not work is possible a problem from heater fan switch or heater resistor. The all 4 speeds use the same relay so you should not worry about the relay. If you turn the ignition switch to on position and heater fan switch to off and the blower motor runs, the heater fan switch should have a problem or there is a wire problem between the heater fan switch and the heater resistor. Otherwise, it is possible a heater resistor problem witch is located on the heater unit. You can remove the connector to test it.
2. If the car blowers warm air when stopped and blowers cold air while moving, my guess is that the thermostat can not close well when it needs to be closed. If the car blowers cold air when stopped, check the heater valve.

Thanks for replying.

It's like -35F up here with the wind and driving it's even colder today. I don't think there is anything wrong with the thermo or heater valve. The engine temp (while driving) is normal if the heater fan is off. But on the 3rd setting just pull all the heat out to fast. I think its the fan resistor pack that is mess up. Just need to know where and how I can get to it and remove it.

Thanks

Try to set the recirculation ON and do not let the fresh air in to see if the heater fan still pull out all the heat.
