Default ? about hitch reciever and a small intro

Hey guys,
I bought an 08 civic lx coupe m/t about 5 months ago and I'm liking it so far. I am a huge old BMW guy so I'm not really yet into the modification of this car and might just do simple things.

So I have a question, I'm an avid cyclist and I am going to get a permanent hitch recieve put on. Now my stepmom has a 2005 accord and hers looks good but the new civic has a panel under there for the aerodynamics (I think)

So has anyone put a reciever on their Civic? Did you/installer cut a piece out of the panel? Do you have any pics and if so if you could be so kind and post them please?

A small intro, its black no mods.
Things I'd like to improve but need to do more research on finding what really are my options are shorter throw shifter, tint, COA (if our cars even beni from them), HID, and factory fogs. I'd like to do wheels everntually and had some in mind but I can't find the picture on her...guy had very deep dish wheels on a black car (believe the middles were a weave and gold).

So thanks for the help and time to start researching. If you want to give me some ideas let me know but I'm pretty fimiliar with the search function. Thanks again

Welcome!

I have not seen or heard of anyone on here installing a hitch, but perhaps instead of a hitch how about a roof rack:

Guess I didnt' really think about that and funny thing is I was going to put a thule on my bmw.

I'm a big paint guy so something that rest on the car kinda scares me (yes probably sounds stupid), thats why I dont' want a trunk one that sits there.

Have you heard of a company that honda guys are going to? I guess I have to search because the only one I know is thule.

Thanks for the welcome too.

I just did a quick check on thule and theres it almost $400 and doesn't include the attachment for the bike, just mounts and crossbars. Bike mount is another $139..I'm gonna look for another company.

The hitch reciever will cost me $200 installed w/ rhino lining put on for rust prevention and $150 for the 4 bike detachable bike rack.

I understand the concern about letting the rack rest on the roof. As far as brands, I have only seen Thule on the sedans, but I'm also sure that Yakima makes them for this particular application also.

I installed a hitch on my 08 FA5 which I got from www.etrailer.com. They make a Si specific model and it fit incredibly well. I have a 1 1/4" bike rack that i've had 3 downhill bikes on with no problems. I also love the fact that it sits really tight up on the bumper so that its hardly even noticeable. Hitches are 110% the way to go over roof racks in terms of cost and fuel mileage (it isn't affected at all!). Roof racks may "look better" (to each his own...) but honestly the cost savings are so large that it makes it a no brainer.

Thanks for the info. Like I said my stepmom has a hitch (basically your setup) and it works very well. After researching the roof racks I still think I'm going with the hitch. I'm not a huge fan of the roof racks (i kinda like the sleekness of my car) but I thought I'd give it a try....look at the old VW rabbits and roof racks.

Todd, what'd they do with your underbody panel? or does the SI not have one? I'm just putting it on a regular coupe...not aero package or anything.

Oo..and what is our cars numbers? Like my BMW is an e30...whats my Civic Coupe?
