Valve Question (Read Read Read)
97 jdm ITR
Over revved awhile back. slightly louder tick in the valvetrain now. pulled the valve cover to inspect without removing anything. from the top everything looks good. turned the crank by hand to inspect operation.
now to the question.
intake cam lobes are obviously the same lift and duration minus the vtec lobe. one of the valves is not being pushed as far down when turning the engine. right intake valve. same for exhaust except its the left exhaust valve on cylinder 4. havent adjusted the valves yet, saving it for tomorrow. but does anyone have a clue what could cause this?

Look at the top of the valve and see if it shows signs of being mushroomed. If not adjust and post up how the clearance is on that valve and if you had to adjust the screw more than normal.
alright good deal. its going on the dyno tomorrow after the adjustment as long as everything is looks good. crossing my fingers for 200whp. seems pretty realistic in my book.
A few years back on the strip i missed 4th gear and went to second instead, over revved and found out i bent a couple of valves..but hopefully your's is ok, best of luck with the dyno run..
nevermind. i'm a moron about them being at different heights. each intake lobe is a different lift and duration per cylinder keeping a whirl effect of air cycling into the engine. as for the ticking, i seem to have over extended a lifter and it was sticking and valves just slighty out of spec intake side. something like .008 on #4
