What could've caused this?

The car (96 B18C1) drives fine and about 3 weeks ago laid down 157 whp. No audible strange sounds. I have no clue.

scrathces on the casting??? Perhaps you've done it while adjusting the valve clearances.

Normal on B18C5 heads... don't know about others... they are not very careful with the bits when deburing...

i saw marks like that on my b16 head... i thought something BAD had happend to the previous owner heh. well at least in know its a normal thing now...

normal. my head has those too, and so have the heads off my friends' cars. every mechanic i've asked said it's normal, and i haven't had any problems in 80k.
