If you're refering to the grinding marks, that is normal.. From the factory then grind off some of the 'flash' from the casting process so that the surface is smoother allowing the oil to drain better.

I freaked out when I saw those marks for the first time too. It looked like some idiot try to do a valve adjustment with a tool 3 times too big.
Some have more than others but it is totally normal.

yeah man, slow your roll. I got those same marks, along with foot prints on my valve cover....
