If you want power then you these are your options:

A) Mini-me:
This is a "mini-swap" where you take the head out of a VTEC d-series engine and put it on your non-vtec block. Im assuming you have a D15B7. This will cost you about 300-400 i believe. Read more about it here:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/faq-d15-sohc-vtec-mini-me-massive-write-up-56k-goodbye-554053/
(Not sure what happened to the pics?)

B) D16Z6 swap
That or the JDM D15 are pretty much the fastest D series from factory and you can do one for 600 or less but in the end, still a d series, though its fun.

C) D16Z6 tranny Si/EX

Maybe 200 bucks for one and you will def notice the acceleration improvement

D) Homemade turbo

This is the only way to get real power out of a d series. You can build one and have it tuned for around $800-$1,400 depending on how cheap you can get your parts or how much work you do it yourself. Very good option but you will need to do research and study how a turbo system works and then attempt to gather all the necessary parts, any major mod besides this on a d-series will not be as fast as this one, this is your best option for big power increases.

E)High compression pistons/cams/headwork/increase bore

These mods will cost you money but would net power but since the d series engines are sooo small there really inst a lot of power increases from it, especially not on a stock engine. These are he kinds of mods that would be done in a higher displacement engine for an N/A build. (naturally aspirated=non-turbo)

Personally you should either boost it or do a mini me swap or get an Si/EX tranny. Option E is for those looking to fully build the D but you spend to much on it and dont get much back, so dont really bother with it, i just listed to show you its out there. Good luck.

don't swap for anything but a D
EDIT: unless you have a lot of money to spend

do a mini-me, and turbo it to 200-225whp
cheapest way to make power

bad rod strength in d15b7s and only one company makes rods for them which would be crower...get a z6 get some vitara pistons and some rods and all the other goods and pick up a decent garrett turbo and put down 300whp and you will prolly have spent just as much for a b18c motor

How much more power do you want? A few hp? Then do a mini me. If you got a bigger budget and want more power then do turbo or even both! Decide it yourself!

You should piece together your own turbo kit, it comes out cheaper, especially if you get stuff like a turbine from a Saab or w.e for example. DO YOUR RESEARCH, it will pay off, trust me, go on turbod.com or .org, i forget what it is and look around.

A mini me is like a mini swap. Youre not swapping out the motor, just the head.

You take out the head on your D15B7 and put on the head from the D16Z6 which has VTEC. Thats the basic outline, you need other parts to make it work like ECU, timing belt, etc. You get more torque and hp. Your motor is pretty low mileage so if you do your research right then you can turbo it and be reliable. No reason to waste a perfectly good engine and get a B series.

Stick with the D15B7 and slap on a D16Z6 head on it and then turbo it. Stock pistons/rod hold well up to 200hp i believe but search around and see what kinds of power people are putting out b4 things went wrong. Good luck
