Icon2 How did you all decide on your aftermarket seats??

I was looking into S2k seats because they are sex. I know I could find a pair in great condition for around 550 give or take a hundo. Then you add in the cost of new seat rails... and I am also going to be adding a set of 4pt sparco harnesses. Then the pillar bar for the seatbelts is im assuming is another big expense.

So to everyone, what were the factors from highest to lowest when it came to choosing the seats you bought?

i think i understand what you are saying. I have the recaro sporline in my tsx, which are very comfortable and the Recaro SRD in my hatch which are pretty conformatable as well. I've never sat in anything else but recaro makes a good seat.

Go to some meets and shows and find seats you like and ask people if you can sit in them. Alot of money to get something that is uncomfortable. Ill be keeping my OEM seats unless I can find a good deal used. Better things to spend money on in a street car than seats.

Seriously?

I don't know about you, but every single mile I've ever driven a car, I've sat in a seat. Most of those hours were on crappy, unbolstered, uncomfortable seats. And, this is just my opinion, but a well designed reclineable seat (e.g. Recaro SRII/SRD) is a night and day difference from a normal seat. I've been looking into putting a Recaro into my EF just for driving comfort--my track plans are still down the road a bit.

I see what your point is though; on the street you don't need to be held in by aggressive bolstering, and there's no need for a harness. But I still counter that sitting in a Recaro compared to, a GSR seat for example, can be likened to being cradled in a giant warm bosom of love compared to sitting on a park bench.

I've gone from DX seats, to Tenzo R's. They were comfortable, so I took them out and put them in my Si. Sold them, went back to OEM Ex seats. Sold those for NRGs (they suck) and went from USDM ITR seats to my ITR Recaros. Recaros do make good seats, just a little on the expensive side.

If its a daily, dont put in fixed seats. Make sure you can recline them and that they are comfortable. I know many people do fixed seat in there DD, but when I had mine I hated getting in and out.

A nice set of Del Sols are the best bang for the buck as far as daily driver seats go. Lower, firmer, and great bolsters that hold you pretty good. Oh, and easy to find and affordable.

I have a set of the jdm recaros and the Sols are more comfortable for my 6'2" 210lb body for daily driving. The recaros are so nice though and look incredible so I can't bring myself to sell them. The s2k seats are a great shape but they are leather ( which I don't really like) and more expensive than they should be.

just my .02

If you're thin/skinny Buddy Club seats are freaking nice.

I had the buddyclub in my last car. I liked them for the most part, but they were rather flimsy. I don't care for the oem seats because they become very uncomfortable to me after a long enough trip.

I have a single Recaro SPG now, and it's perfect -- I don't care for reclining seats, because I never adjust my seat anyway, and tend to sit in a fairly upright position anyway. I feel fully supported with the shape of the back, so my lower back is supported, which is what got me uncomfortable in the first place. Plus, they're lighter than any reclineable and they're FIA approved. Oh, and I picked it up for half price.

wow im glad this got a nice response.

well im 6'0 175 and the seat needs to recline, thats non-negotiable. and the thing with my want for the harnesses is kinda personal, i had a buddy who crashed and the sparco 3pt's saved him-without a doubt btw.

im not looking to spend a huge amount on whatever i decide on. im going to assume a minimum cost for a [nice] pair is 500. then rails and such.. unless all i do is buy only one for me and wait and save to buy the passenger... that sounds a lot better lol

Look into Memoryfab seats, they offer ones that are reclinable...and you could buy them in singles instead of pairs.

Here's what I'm talking about:
