Default CR-VTEC swap costs.....

All you b20 blockers out there - what did your swap cost? Im trying to figure out the whole cost BEFORE i start buying parts *****-nilly and end up having to use a credit card to bail myself out. A list of parts and a total cost (including install if applicable) would be a BIG help

for someone who in the previous thread knew everything bout tuning the sob on a dyno, it will run much better then you want to know how much it costs to build one.

How much $$$ you got?

Unless your going all-out B20\VTEC...It would be so much more reliable to just get a GSR with Bolt-Ons...the car will drive like the motor came with it.

Or get alittle more aggressive and do GSR with ITR Cams\Bolt Ons and ITR Tranny.

You'll be much more happy...

So, since i dont have a B20 that means i dont know anything about engines? **** off.

So far i have had 2 responses to this question - a flame and a piece of advice having nothing to do with the original question. Would someone who has already had their coffee please answer my question?

did you search for b20, b20/vtec, or crvtec? that would probably come up with a lot of peoples posts about their setups and costs. or just read through the tech and hybrid forums.

yeah...all motor is the way im goin.....damn $8k-$12k seems a little high. Anyone have an actual price figure of their b20 swap?

Now that i think about it.....what do you mean by RIGHT? Do you mean rebuilding ALL the internals, blueprinting, etc..? Because if you do, there are probably slim to no people on this board with their motor built "RIGHT". No one in their right mind would spend $8-$12k on a B20 unless they build it for the strip (prolly with some help from sponsors), so I am going to have to call bullshit on that price figure. Once again - im not asking for hypotheticals - Im asking for actual swap costs....thx.

If this helps any, a friend of mine bought a JDM B20Z for $4100 installed (expensive, eh?) and has the option of getting a brand-new ITR head installed PROPERLY for another $2300 + labor.

That comes out to around $6400 for a bare-bones (no aftermarket parts) no-frills B20VTEC motor...but that's from an extremely reputable shop where you get what you pay for. DIY and the price will be significantly lower.

I'm building my motor 'right' and that figure isn't very far off....

It all depends on how well your hookups are on parts. Labor, etc...

Sup sup Alf .....I am the guy w/ the JDM B20B.....he didn't mention that the 4,100 includes a GS-R tranny w/ short shifter not the crappy Long as geared LS tranny. Yes Yes Yes i know, everywhere on th web is sellin B20B & B20Z's for $799, but that is for the long block only. Go ahead and add it up, Shift linkage, ecu, LS manifold, axles, tranny (GS-R tranny isn't cheap and is hard to find now), etc. Plus install from a reall good shop.....I think I paided about right plus I can bring it back to them if i ever have any problems. BTW....It hauls so much ***. I can pull on GS-R's and Si's pretty good and that is w/ just the Stock JDM B20B motor. No Vtec Yet . Just tryin to help u out. But if u wanted to know the same shop told me they would of done everything and install in the car w/ the vtec head for about 5,800-6,000. Not bad, cause they have the same setup in their shop racecar and it ran in the low 12's w/ Crvtec and some pistons, everything else is stock. My 2 cents....

Peace Out All

you think you know what most people have here with a whopping 43 posts??!
you're coming across as an arrogant *******, people are posting to help you, we don't have to ya know.
ANYWAYS to answer your question personally, the previous owner (good friend of mine) spent close to $14,000 on the motor setup in my car. that's just a STOCK block and STOCK head with the usual bolt-ons. no aftermarket internals here. that includes the swap, some problems taken care of, and all the bugs worked out. but the result is a beautifully running motor capable of running in the 12s all motor.
keep in mind you're asking for REAL WORLD numbers here, quite a bit different than the prices and quotes you READ off the internet.

let's say http://www.hondamotorsonline.com

b20b longblock = 1000 shipped.
B16a full swap = 1500-2000 shipped, depending on which gen.

there's yer bottom line.

If you want a ghetto CR-Vtec setup that is not very reliable but will impress the high school kids, then you could probably get away with only spending between $7,000 and $9,000. If you want to build the engine the right way, you will probably be closer to $16,000. That is including machine shop work, assuming that you do all the r/i and assembly yourself.

Sorry....i didnt mean to come off as an *******, but $8-$12k just seems pretty damn high. I added up every part that i could ever want to put in a crvtec swap and didnt even break $8k.....$1000 for b20 longblock, another $1000 for a decent b16 head, approx $1000 for gsr tranny - thats $3k. So with some machine work, a few internal upgrades, necessary parts and labor you are telling me it could cost $5-$9k? Maybe if you pay the obsolute worst prices for your parts and get ***-raped on labor charges it might see those prices. Seems a little high, thats all. I have hook-ups on pretty much all the parts i am going to need so i can get everything at or around cost, and i can perform most of the labor myself or with help from some friends. As for the false dilemma the **** ADDICT brought up of me not knowing **** about Hondas because in only have 43 posts.....Let me get this straight...you are basically saying that people new to this board dont know **** about hondas? I think you better check yourself on that one bro. Having less posts means 2 things - I am new to this board and I have a life outside my computer. Maybe you should spend more time outside than jerking off in front of your computer.

All you b20 blockers out there - what did your swap cost? A list of parts and a total cost (including install if applicable) would be a BIG help
my block = 750
Head = 150
ARP gear = 210
seals/gaskets = 160
head work = 35
oil line = 35
consumables = 50
injectors = 65

so that is it, fro under $1500 i can put a B20B block into my Prelude...

if i include the costs of my B16A swap ($5000) it looks a bit different, but for me - just getting from a B16A to B20VTEC is around 1500...

this is with stock pistons and rods.

if i were to open her up, i could havbe easily doubled or trippled the costs to about $4000 total,

i dont think that i would get double the performance from a built block though - do you?

nah, just going from a 1.6 to a 2.0 will be enough at this stage... once i get used to that, it will be time again for the next step...

HTH,

t..

I just listed the street price for parts. I have about 75% of the parts I need.

I forgot to add a roll cage, and slicks, and.......

Money.
