Driveshaft installation problem
i am replacing the driveshafts on a 1995 accord 4door ex, with automatic trans and abs. i asked for help at this site before starting this job. i also have a helms and a haynes repair manual. according to these manuals and the discussions on the archives on this site there should be enough room for a large slotted screwdriver tip or similar tool such as a prybar tip to go between the transmission housing and the driveshaft, in order to pop the spring clip. before i removed the passenger side driveshaft i examined the amount of space between the
transmission housing and the driveshaft. where you insert the screwdriver tip both the drivers and passenger sides had the same amount of space. i have not removed the drivers side driveshaft yet so i still have that as a reference. i installed the passenger side. i know it is in place correctly because i both felt and heard the springclip pop into place. i grabbed the inner driveshaft boot and housing and could not simply pull it out, to confirm that they were in place. here is the problem: the space between the transmission housing and the driveshaft, i.e. the gap where you insert the screwdriver tip, is now three times the space in comparison with the driveshaft which i removed, three times the gap i see on the drivers side, or enough room for three prybar tips. does this mean that i have the wrong part?

Did you have to turn in the old part as a core, can you hold the old part up there and get a better visual inspection. It would be nice to compare parts at the store where you bought it but sometimes you cannot take the old part with you at that time. It is possible to get the wrong part number but I think without matching the two parts together it will be hard to say 100%.
I have always used a pretty healthy prybar or a heavy chisel and hammered it in as a wedge on occasion, yes if you cannot pull it out by hand then it should be locked into place, if it does not leak on a test drive then maybe this part will be ok???
