Icon2 dohc zc into a 95civic coupe

alright first things first i dont know much bout the zc's i recently bought a 89dohc zc i bought it cuz it was cheap ahaha but it only came with the block and head the only thing i know bout the zc is that people compare them with the d16s so i was wondering if the **** of my old d16y8 would fit like the axles mounts harness starter dizzy ecu etc well bassically the small stuff like that and also the tranny wat type does that use a d series ? ... now thats out of the way can the zc be dropped into a 95 civic ex coupe ?

Whether or not it fits depends on exactly what ZC it is, the early versions similar to the D16A1s found in the '86 - '89 integras wont work. The versions found in the '88 - '91 JDM civics will though, as will the '92 - '95 JDM version. You will need the ZC intake, nothing else fits, you will also need an OBD1 ZC distributor (they aren't easy to find) you will need to grind the ports in your exhaust manifold slightly as all 4 ports are shifted over to one side slightly. You can reuse your harness, transmission and axles, alternator, mounts.

Oh yeah, good luck passing smog with it.

Edit, your old D16Y8? in a '95 coupe? If its a '95 that engine was swapped in there, '96 was the first year for the Y8.

You can check out thezcr.com for some good ZC information including identification. The biggest thing is the mount, if it has a normal civic style timing belt post mount it will work, if it uses the '86 - '89 integra style front mount it wont work.

Seeing as how you're in california probably not, that engine will fail emissions on multiple levels:

-its older than the car its going into, automatic visual fail
-its a DOHC ZC (there is no USDM equivelant of this engine if its the civic version, again automatic fail for visual
-no compatible USDM ECU

if you lived in a less strict emissions state and had a complete OBD1 ZC swap i'd say go for it, they're decent engines, just theres a lot working against you in your case.

Probably not a whole lot, especially in California. A friend of mine bought a complete used OBD1 JDM DOHC ZC, with a bad distributor for $350 last winter, and I live in a province with no emissions testing.

I'd say the original topic is pretty much dead at this point. OP had an '89 DOHC ZC (unknown origin) and was going to swap it onto a '95 coupe at this point has basically given up on it.
