Default 2000 crv problems

My sister in-law just purchased a 2000 honda crv about a month ago. Already she has been noticing abnormal noises. A scraping/squealing noise from the timing belt side down low. And also when realtime kicks in scraping/howling noise. Any hints?

a/c compressor or tensioner bearing possibly. what is "realtime" if you're talking vtec, a 2000 crv doesnt not have that.

Realtime is the part time 4wd that kicks in when the front wheels slip.

Could it be an engine bearing? It sounds like it's down lower than the a/c.

I think the 4wd noise is the differetial lube. Maybe, I really don't know. I am kind of researching a I post.

could be. the a/c compressor is at the bottom for the most part. below that is the oil pan. ive dealt with alot of noise complaints in my time as a tech and its never what it seems except sometimes. you have to do some work and start removing belts and see if the noise goes away or changes.

the rear diff usually only makes noise on turns and usually can be fixed with a fluid change. the front diff is lubed by atf

I drove it tonight and it is snowing pretty good (or bad) and the howling 4wd noise only happens when the front tires slip. It's quite fun to drive in the snow, true honda drift.

I've had mine howl a little bit before, but I got the diff. fluid changed and haven't heard it again.

I've heard that the rear diff. has alot of problems, so change the fluid before it's too late.

I change the diff fulid twice to three times a year. All you need is 1.5 to 2 qts of dual pump fluid. Its availible at all honda dealers. I pay about $7 a qt so i spend just under 20bucks to save my diff from making nosie and prob a good thing for it.

He said the FRONT diff is lubbed by ATF. He did NOT say the rear was.

Do not use 75/90! Only use Honda dual pump fluid in the rear differential. If it is really noisey you may have to change the fluid twice.

My Doughter got in her 2000 CR-V and started it up, she heard a rumblin noise then the engine raced for a few seconds, then the check engine light
flashed four or five times then it stayed on. I looked at the owners
manual and checked the gas cap, which was ok. I guess it's probably a
sensor that has something to do with the emmision control system.
Have any other CR-V owners had this problem? Is it worth trying to fix
myself or should I just take it to the dealer? The car is out of
warranty so if I take it to the dealer I hope it wont be too expensive,
I figure it will be at the bare minimum $100.
