word of mouth or internet review's for tires
Hi all! I want to know how many people here base there decision on tire rack's survey for buying tires? I will be replacing my toyo t1-s which I bought on febuary of last year and is now hanging on for dear life so I will be replacing them next week. I cannot afford another set which is a bummer for I loved the toyo's so much but not enough money for another set. I was looking at tire rack's survey and was apalled to see how well the yokohama parada spec 2 did on there survey, how well really are the parada's? friends and people in general tell me that there no good but tire rack rated them 9.2 out of 10 which is remarkable, confused a bit. Another choice is the Kumho supra 712 which I know most people like and actually got a good review from tire rack, so I'm leaning on the kumho's now. Actually I was originally set on the dunlop fm901 since one time i was watching a best motoring clip and they were using the tire so i was like "oh cool using on a type- r probably good" , but I went to tire rack again and they rated the tire poorly. A friend of mine used a set on the track and he didn't like them at all so what do you guys think? yok's or the kumho's? or are there any out there that you can recommend? no bridgestones for me
they don't have 205/45/16.....

are these going to be daily driven or will you race on them? if you will race on them, what kind of racing, and do you hope to be competitive?

I try to use as little opinion as possible, unless its from an absolute expert. Thats why I ask the tire engineers I know. That usually leads me to buy a very expensive tire.
Remember, the single greatest contributor to your car's performance is tires. I don't understand why some people have $2000 suspensions and $65 tires at each corner.

thanks for the replies mike & negativelift, Anyway my type of driving I would consider to be on the spirited side. My friends and I would go to road race events every so often, well myself for that matter... I also love driving up the canyons with a select few on the weekends as well. Anyway I already ordered my tires from the internet and this is what I got

there the Yokohama AVSES100 in the states and in japan it's name is yokohama DNA GP.
what convinced me to buy this tire is what yokohama states in the development of these tires, too bad since I don't know anybody here that has tested the tires
oh well that person would be me when I get them I guess
.
Negativelift, I 100% agree with you that in order to have a good suspension set up you need to finish up the formula with a good set of tires, I don't understand it either ( true choice stage 3 and remingtons don't match) .
cheers,

Nice tires. The pattern looks a lot like the Michelin Pilots:
Just curious, how much were they? Also what did Yokohama say about the development of the tires?

Judd,
Bring your car to an auto-x practice and let me try them out too.
I drove Charleston's car in an auto-x practice with those Dunlops on, and I agree that those tires aren't that good for auto-x and road racing purposes.

those things got killed on the track this weekend , just wait for Willards response to those crap *** tires
literally pushed the rubber back and up on the tires , you'd have to see them
I'm sure pics will be coming in the forum

well, then I guess its a good thing their website states:
"Test drive the AVS ES100 for 30 days. If you are not completely satisfied, bring them back for a full refund.*
*See dealer for details."
One can do a lot of damage to a tire in 30 days.
Racer: "umm, I'd like to return these tires for a full refund."
Dealer: "What's wrong with them?"
Racer: "They suck."
Dealer: "Can you be more specific?"
Racer: "Well I was going through the esses at CMP and the tires would not hookup."
Dealer: "These tires are corded!"
Racer: "Yeah, like I was saying, they suck."

I think that means street use
if you saw these things I dont think they would do ANYTHING other than say they were abused or something

I think this is a really good tire test, though I don't think Avon is available in the states, and they didn't test any Yokos...

Somehow, I don't buy the test report on this link. First of all, they have 2 Bridgestone tires (RE730 and S-03) in the test, however, they lumped the two in all the tests. Which one did they test exactly??? RE730??? or S-03??? Then, at the end, they ranked them with pictures. Well, again they named Bridgestone Potenza at 7th place. Which one??? Both RE730 and S-03 are Potenza, but they don't perform the same. On 6th place was named Dunlop SP Sport 9000 with a picture of Michelin Pilot Sport.
5th place was Michelin Pilot Sport with a picture of Bridgestone Potenza S-03.
Things like these make me wonder their validity of the test.

I've had Kumho 712's and now have the Dunlop SP Sport 9000's. I personally like the Dunlop's better. As far as wear goes, I would give the nod to the Kumho's, but to me the turn-in and grip on the Dunlop's is much better. Never had S-03's, Michelin Pilot Sports, or the Toyo's, but my vote is for the Dunlop's. For a while The Tire Rack had the Dunlop's a little cheaper than the Kumho's. HTH.

Funny how they got there reviews mixed up with the pix's that they have
About the AVSES100 I just hope I get a better feedback from what I have heard here, just have to make sure that I break it in and try to get the right tire pressure when I do take it for a run. I really have no high expectations for this( especially on a track) since this is not even a competition tire , just looking for a good all around tire. If I do want to get competitive even just as a hobby I would spend more money on a race tire and not use the AVSES100 on the track and expect a whole lot from it....
cheers

why would anyone pick those over the P700's is beyond me
46 dollars each and those tires are STICKY as hell
falkenz own3d j00 at CMP though!
It appears the P700Z's are not being offered anymore, at least not at tire rack... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....li&model=P700Z
