Default radio install on 6th gen? dash kit required?

I am looking at installing a single din radio on my 2000 accord sedan. Is there a dash kit that I need to purchase, or can the radio simply screw into the stock mounting holes, and can I simply use a 1 din pocket either above or below it to fill the 2nd din gap?

I did a mock order at crutchfield.com and it shows that they reccomend a dash kit, but for the most part it appears to be a simple din pocket with a bracket attached?

Furthermore, I may need to replace the front door speakers, and run power wire to the trunk for an amplifier. Is there a common place on the firewall that you guys are running power wire through? I do not want to make any holes, and I have some left over 2 guage wiring that I would like to use (its overkilll but I do not want to buy 4 guage if I have this).

Are the front door panels difficult to come apart to install speakers? Are the speaker sizes 6.5" or some other strange size?

Thanks

You can ISO mount the HU but it will leave some gaps on the side. I've got mine ISO mounted but I also fiberglassed a surround to put gauges in where the pocket would be. I would get the dash kit if I weren't going to do something else.

there is a large grommet on the firewall just below the fuse box. That's what I would consider the preferred location to pull wire through. I think you can get 2ga through it. 4ga goes through no problem.

door panels are pretty easy to remove. speakers are 6.5 but you will likely need to buy/make some spacers.

to emphasize on jwellers comment - he pretty much hit the nail on the head.

If you are not against going to wal-mart they had a easy to assemble dash kit which looks pretty good, its black and maybe leaves 1/8- 1/16 in gap on either side. They also sell a harness if you want a cleaner look. maybe like 25$ for both.

i ran my power wires through the grommet jweller mentioned (battery side) for ease. Make sure you wire in a hot swap fuse within 18in of the battery if you are to be doing an amp/sub(s) in the back. depending on your amp would detirmine the fuse size. Try to get the lowest fuse amperage you can for your setup. I have two kicker comp 12in' and a pioneer 760w amp which i have a 30a fuse on. The Amp kit I bought had a 40a fuse but that was a litle too high for my application.

make sure you run your power lines and the audio cables on different sides of the car - its possible to get interference.

door panels are easy, my car have plastic spacers for the 6.5's up front- refer to your repair manual of choice for specifics - good luck and have fun.

Default u can do it!!!!

hey bro. i installed a aftermarket deck into my girls car and used the stock pocket (witht eh cover on it) and it fits just right. there is a tiny gap between the pocket and the deck but it's not noticable. (looks clean) and functions great. try it out. i didn't waste money with the dash kit. if u don't like it u can always get the kit later.
