Do Mods Cause You To Drive Faster?
In practical everyday driving, do performance mods like i/h/e and suspension mods like strut bars and tie bars cause you to drive faster? Is the top speed of a car raised by adding performance parts, or just the acceleration?
Thanks,
Ben

I'm sure top speed and acceleration are upped a little bit, but not a whole lot. I would imagine your driving habits will change a bit too. Mine did, and still are to this day slightly, I want to hear my intake a lot.
Potential top speed doesn't change with general modifications unless you are altering the transmission's gear ratios/final drive or the total wheel size.
In practical everday driving, I'd bet many people get on the thottle for the addition 'audible noises' that their mods have produced... and many are simply speed addicts. For the most parts, mods will affect acceleration.

I don't get on the throttle more since I've started modding. Probably I get on it less, since I also started dragracing and (later) auto-xing after modding
autox/open track events,,,make me drive like a granny on the road...its so boring on the streets..so i just drive normal...nothing is like being at an autox and being able to totally abuse the car without fear of hurting anything/one
Mine changed. I love hearing my Tanabe RM, no silencer. And banking turns has never been better. + w/ an upgraded brake system, it's fun from time to time to stop on a dime.
Engine mods haven't done anything for me really, since I'm so keen on getting good gas mileage. Suspension mods changed my driving style significantly.

wanting to go faster is the reason we mod cars dont we.
having a turbo and not turning up the motor every now and then is just plain dumb

I started driving quicker when I modded my Honda. But, now I drive a slow automatic Galant and my driving style hasn't changed. I still redline every gear...it's just not nearly as rewarding. But, since I always max out the engine and usually max out the tires, it follows that performance pasts cause me to drive quicker (not faster though).
Most cars' top speed is limited by power, not gearing. That being the case, adding power to the engine will increase your top speed. Not that much though...it takes 8x the power to go 2x as fast. A McLaren has 600+ hp and it can't even go twice as fast as most Hondas. It's still fast though....

Are you a cop?
No, I'm not a cop. I am a teenager who was hoping for a group of responses totally OPPOSITE what everyone has said! The parents aren't being too open about performance mods, so I was hoping to show them that performance mods aren't going to make me a faster or worse driver. Oh well!

That's what you should do....unless of course you're trying to get your parents to sponsor your hobby....

I just didn't tell my parents. When my dad saw some new headers and filter I just explained it was for looks. He kind of smiled and walked away. By the time he figured out about the engine transplant it was too late...it was already done. As such, instead of getting pissed I think my old man was kind of proud.

tell pops about the engine swap after its done!!mods making me drive faster? No Accellerate faster, yes.
I was up at Jotech, the local shop here the other day, and there was a dad up there that was talking about buying a turbo kit for his 15 year old son who drives already. I told him that thats a good mod and that would be cool but it ws too much power for fifteen years old.
