Icon3 heater problems...90 accord LX

So I explained my problems in a different thread. I have some unanswered questions. My heater does not work. Air blows but does not get hot. Water is circulating through the system and through the heater core. The HCV is open. I've been told that possibly there is a stuck door the diverts the air to blow the hot air and it may be stuck in the "cold" position. I've looked in my Chilton manual and cannot find this door on the heater assembly or anywhere else. I was also wondering about a potential problem. On the bottom of my heater assembly where the control levers are (very bottom right hand corner behind the radio) There is a plastic cover that is suppose to cover a yellow extremely hard foamy block that I believe is under the bottom of the heater core. The tab that holds the cover in place is broke off on the right hand side exposing over half of this yellow thing which is about 6" deep and 2 1/2" wide. What is this yellow thing and could it cause the heater not to become hot if there is something wrong with it? Thanks for your help. The car is a bone stock 1990 Accord LX. It has a new Thermostat in it. Also all the air controld have constant power and need to key to turn on. If i turn the parking lights on thr radio comes on. Any leads where I might be able to solve the wiring problems?

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier (the full time job is most inconvient for lurking forums) but I had to pay a few bills and keep the roof over the head.
I'm going to ask you to try to id the offending piece from an illustration from the Honda Parts catalog. Refer:

This is the detail for the '90 Accord Heater Case (only) - the a/c case attaches to the right of this.

no #4 under the heater core there is a plastic piece that is not labeled on this drawing. this is the same drawing I looked at in my manual and it is not identified. The yellow piece I am referring to is in between that plastic piece and the bottom of the heater core

I work 12 hour days so I know what you mean by working to put a roof over your families head. I am in the same boat. How do I attach a picture in this thread and I will attach a picture of it tonight?

When you access the quick reply box to answer this, you will note 8 tool bar itams on top. You want the 7th one, the one that looks like

When you select it, it will open a dialog box asking for a url address.
The system requires you to post the picture in question to a graphics (picture) hosting service (I use photobucket). After you do that, its no more than pasting the url address of the photo to the dialog baox
Hit "OK"
