Painting an Accord model car; don't have access to the color plate!
Hey all,
I am crafting a model car for my boyfriend. He recently sold his 1993 Honda Accord and misses it a lot. I'm surprising him this Christmas (hopefully) with a 1/24 model car that will look exactly like his (stickers and all). The only problem is, I don't have access to the paint code on the driver's side door. Pardon me for being uninformed and/or unprepared, but I really need this help!
Please do not bash me because I could not figure this out on my own; I've searched and searched and have found 2 possible paint codes of that particular car. There is often a discrepancy with the color swatches and code and color name. For instance, I've seen BG-23m be called "Bright Blue Green Metallic", "Brittany Blue Green Metallic" and "Hampshire Green Metallic". I have also seen those color names being associated with the code "BG-26m", which on other sites, point to other color and year information. On some websites, I read about BG-26m being used on cars pre-1990s, and on other sites I read that BG-23m is only available post-2000. Weird stuff.
If anyone happens to have a car in this same color, or a friend with this color, can you help me out? I did a Google search and found a 93 Accord in the color I am looking for.
Also, I need to get spray paint for painting the model, and I know Duplicolor has color matched auto paint, but I can't seem to find an online store that sells the correct color in a spray can.

And to reiterate, I know in order to answer my first question I need to look on the driver side door, but the car is already sold and gone, so I don't have access to the code. It's too bad I didn't have a chance to sneak a peek at the paint color before he sold it, and I would have; I didn't know it would be so hard to find the paint!

Thanks Muffin Man! I was thinking it was the Bright Blue Green since during my search, I found an X-box controller that was painted in Arcadia Green and it was a forest green type color; pretty different from the swatch provided on Paintscratch!

Also, more advice needed, when it says "clearcoat", does it mean that it's semi-transparent? Do I paint that right over a primer or should I have a base coat that is the color I want. Do I use "clear coat" as a base coat and then use an actual CLEAR coat on top? God, I've never felt this vulnerable, I know nothing about auto paint!

www.paintscratch.com sells OEM match paint based on the correct color code. reasonable prices too. Thats your best bet to get the matching paint once you have the correct code.
I wouldn't obsess over it. I'm sure that if you get it anywhere close to right, you'll be GF of the year in his eyes.

Looks like Pewter Grey Metalic Charcoal to me. But then again...
Arcadia Green Pearl Charcoal is '93 friendly.
I wonder if we're up against the favorite "same paint different name" gambit the marketing guys pull every model year.
