front end work on a 91 LX
Ive had a clicking noise coming from the front left of the car while turning at low speeds, as well as a "hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" coming from the front end that gets louder the faster I drive. I took it to a local shop, and they quoted me the following: Left Axle - $167, Right Wheel Bearring - $290, Labor ($79/ hour) x 3.5 hours - $277 = $734 + tax.
This all sounds a little steep to me. $290 for a wheel bearing?
Any thoughts on this let me know. Thanks guys!

What !?!
Shops have no need to charge enough money to pay the overhead.
And Scumdog Grease Monkey Technicians don't deserve to be paid minimum wage.
Do the work yourself.
Go out and buy a lift, shop building and a Toolbox with about $5-10k of tools, including the Special tools needed for many jobs.
Go ahead and show them a thing or 2

...is this a joke? You know as well as I do that ppl are taken advantage of every day by your so-called "Scumdog Grease Monkey Technicians". All I'm looking for is a little feedback on the accuracy of the quote he gave me.... anyone?
He's spot on with his diagnosis and his labor pricing as well.
$79/hr is pretty much the going rate for labor (at least in the lower 48)
Depending on what he's proposing on the wheel bearing, he could be WAY off.
IF it is just the wheel bearing, Majestic Honda (RI, USA) sells them out the back door for $50.00 (list 79.00)USD every day of the week. Refer:

I wouldn't want to get into a pis***g contest with the guy, just ask for some clarification.
