Icon2 When buying paint...

Hello everyone. I plan on painting my CRX come spring time and I'd like to paint it yellow like what came on some of the si's. I believe the paint code is y-49? My question is, can an autobody supply store mix this colour up? Do I just give them that paint code and they'll know what to do? Sorry if these are dumb questions but I know nothing about paint or autobody in general. Thanks.

If you call or go to the local paint shop and tell them the color code they will mix the paint for you. They have the formulas and all the colors and tints to make the color your looking for.theyll ask you what brand, and how much paint you want. Quart, gallon ? etc. They will most likely give you the paint straight up non reduced, If you want them to reduce the paint so all you have to do is pour it in your paint gun and spray it. Tell them you want it ready to spray. Reducing paint is very easy. I usually make my own paint cause we have our own dupont mixing station and formula scale, but when i order paint i always get mine straight up and reduce it myself because some colors and types of paint i like to thin out more than others. Since your a beginner i would stick with the standard 1:1 ratio when mixing/ reducing basecoat. Mixing clear is just as easy, youll mix a certain part of clear to a certain part of activator, depending on the brand the ratios change.

If your looking at using a single stage, than they cannot mix the paint ready to spray for you since single stage requires an activator than a reducer. just get a few paint cups with the reducing measurement ratios on it and follow the directions and youll be good.

im sure your not looking to use a single stage, so when you get your base / clear, just tell them the code, they will mix it for you, give you a data sheet with all the info you would need about it, and send you on your way. really simple process. get some cups too. i always seem to have a lack of cups when i need them. hahaha
