Default New to the forum - Q about window tint

Hello everyone!

Just bought my first Honda this weekend, a 2009 Civic LX Sedan. Heard a rumor that some owners may have issues with window tint where the window tracks are tearing up the tint? Anyone have any confirmation on this? If this is the case, I'll just leave it stock....

Also, any other issues/must-haves for this car, feel free to recommend!

I have heard that. I suggest keeping the windows as clean as you can to help prevent scratches

It's true. I have 2 faint yet noticeable parallel scratches on the front passenger windows.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe it could be fixed as they're applying the tint, they could adjust the window track so it doesn't touch the glass? Hmm....I don't know if I trust a tint shop to open the door of my new car with less than 200 miles on it

I don't really worry about it because I can always just get my windows tinted again. Just as long as the tint does its job, especially in the summer, I don't mind the little scratches.

Welcome to the forum man. Glad to see you came over.

I can't find the old thread where there were people complaining about this.

It's ok - I'm also looking for some other accessories and **** too, so I'm going to sniff around.

I have been tinting for over 20 years.. The film is Scratch RESISTANT not scratch proof... It has nothing to do with just a Honda.... Its just dirt and road grime that has accumulated in the tracks, rubbers, and felt wipers.. If you just keep it all clean as possible, you can prevent that. I have seen cars last 10+ years with tint on the car without peeling or scratching... Its called maintaining it just like your oil or brakes....

You could go the very expensive route and order custom tinted glass and recover some of your money by selling you oem stuff to a salvage yard. I was planing this until my car cuagth fire and burned to the ground. $1600 installed including windsheild (prescription) and rear window less trade in.

Rx Windshield? Would that mean that only people with certain vision ratings can see out of it properly? Can you elaborate.

NOBODY makes "Privacy" glass for passenger cars if they never came with it to begin with... RX Windshield???? I think this kid has bumped his head. There is NO RX windshield..... I tint windshields all the time for people who cannot take direct sunlight.

Also... The "Factory" tinted glass on trucks & SUV's DO NOT block out any heat nor do they protect you from UV rays.. Thats why they call it "Privacy" glass. Cause thats all it is..

On my 03 Si some of the corners at the top kind of push the tint down because the window fits so snug. There was nothing we could really do about it but you can't notice it at all unless you are looking.

Tint is something that can be replaced if it ends up getting damaged and it isn't really that expensive when weighed against the benefits (blocking sun damage to interior, privacy, looks) so I don't have any problem paying another 160 bucks in a couple of years if needed.

I have a prescription for tinted windshield from my optometrist. You can order the glass tinted from the factory.

That's why when I hop into my other cars with "privacy" glass in the summer its not as hot when I hop into a friend's car which isn't tinted.

since we're on the subject of tint, does using the rear windshield defroster cause tint to bubble up?

Nope. You won't run into any issues so long as you get your tint installed by a reputable vendor.

My camry and my current civic have face many a cold winter evening and I hit the defrost button and all was fine.

My old DA sedan though, I had to disable the defroster to tint.

I believe the summer sun gets hotter than the rear defroster anyways, so the tints success at adhering to the window is surely proven during the summer. (Correct me if I'm wrong here)

A buddy of mine has the same tint as my civic in his teg with positive results also.

Anyone else have these same results?
