Default exhaust question muffler shop or catback?

ok so Im about to get a megan exhaust. but today a friend of mine told me that there was no point that I should juss go to a muffler shop buy a muffler and get the piping all the way back and that Id be wasting money on a name brand exhaust. what the best thing to do ?

ws2 is very quiet, not that much louder than stock and does actually provide a slight performance gain and you won't get hassled by the cops

if you want straight performance and don't care about having a loud *** exhuast, go for a buddy club spec 2..

I personally feel that buying a name brand exhaust is a waste of money 95% of the time. The remaining 5% are more expensive than the average enthusiast would spend.

The reason to do it is to save time. If you find a specific sound / volume you like on another car, you can buy the same exhaust. If not, it is generally cheaper to just buy a good muffler (of your choice, which requires research, which takes time) and a good resonator (again, more research) and then have a shop that can competently weld it in place (possibly more research). If you don't want to bother with such things, then a "bolt on" exhaust cuts all those issues out.

This is contradictory. Neither of those are "good" mufflers (they don't muffle).

Not hating, just warning.
