Icon2 HELP:After clean throttle butterfly w/ Carburetor Cleaner, engine check light went on

Please help me. I have a 97 Honda Accord, auto, 90k

Well, initially, my gas pedal is so sticky when I press down, so I googled around found this guy's method. http://www.jasongraphix.com/archive/...as_pedal_stick

I fallowed his method, first take off the hose which is connected with the throttle body. had someone step on gas pedal to open up the butterfly for 10 minutes. applied Carburetor Cleaner inside, and use toothbrush clean up. and hook everything back up.

I didn't even know if that guy's method is correct...i was so stupid.

Here is what happened after I tried to start the car, the first time, the car didn't start up until like after 10 seconds, and it sound like "jump slowly", then I turn it off. Second time, I turn it up, it still sounded like "jump" but I didn't turn it off, however it turned itself off after like 10 seconds.

After a couple time trails, the car now sounds and operates just like before. The gas pedal is still sticky tho. But now the engine check light went on.

I am afraid I applied too much carburetor cleaner, and it went into the engine n mess it up. can anyone tell me why and what should I do with it...

I was so stupid...I am waiting online for your advices..

Thanks everyone.

Best bet is you funnied up a sensor inside your throttle body; however it's hard to say which one. Possibly your MAF or MAP. The best and--only way to assure is to recieve your CEL.

I'm pretty sure carb cleaner has a tendency to soften and expand rubber gaskets and o-rings. This may have and an effect on your map sensor, tps sensor, or your fast idle and iacv valves. First thing is to pull the code and see what that says. Also if anyone has any input on a safe carb and choke cleaner that doesn't expand and ruin rubber gaskets for hondas or any facts please enlighten me.

Did you not go to see what the CEL was for? That seems like a no brainer.

Figure out what it says is the problem then fix.

As to cleaning it, refer to the thread in the Accord FAQ

Its really easy to pull the code yourself...check the faq in the accord forum, get the code, and find it in the accord faq and let everyone know.

Fast Idle Thermal Valve has a wax pellet inside, many technicians say dont use strong carb cleaner to clean these things. Brake and parts cleaner should be good for anything and enviromentally safe cleaners should not be very strong either.

Hello Everyone!

I finally got the chance to have my CEL code pulled, and they are:
E0304
P0303
P1300

The technician said the tune up i did by myself was correct, but i uses too much carb cleaner(too strong?) that I have all a lot of oil on the one or two of the plugs he pulled out of engine. And it is causing misfire.

He said I have to replace wire/plugs/gas gasket, and Im wondering if I can done that by myself. He charge for around $150(parts n labor)

Can anyone here tell me what should I do?
Thank you all so much!!!!!!

The spark plugs u can take care of yourself. I still don't get why you would need wires... WTF. I'd say save your money. For me, I would just take out the throttlebody and make sure all the sensors are not clogged. And get a multimeter and test all the sensors.

i use the valvoline 3 step intake cleaner at work all the time. this includes cleaning the throttle body the same way you did just with a supplied tool instead of a toothbrush. it is not uncommon to throw a cel when doing this. the engine almost always sputters at start up and sometimes throws a cel. most of the times for a misfire. take it to autozone have them read the code and then clear it. if its on for a misfire then problem solved. if it comes back on for something else then its time to look more into it.

You should change the plug wire since they are now oil soaked, you can try to clean them up with parts cleaner but depending on how long they were soaking up oil it may be too late. Go ahead and clean them up for now, if there is still a misfire, then the ECU will detect it and turn the MIL back on again for a P030x.

Part of a PDF in this link deals with the valve cover gasket change, if your engine is not the same, the procedure is still very similar. I may have another link, let me know if this one is no good.
