You could adjust it by using an adjustable cam gear instead. Just adjust the cam gear and check the timing after to see how advanced or retarded you are.

You aren't going to be able to adjust spark timing with a cam gear. I guess indirectly you will, but thats not gonna be the optimum setup.

I have seen a distributor housing notched to allow adjustment. That is what I would do. Might take 15 minutes with a drill and a dremel.

Enlarging and oblonging the mounting holes is going to be the easiest thing to do. Your only other option is to get an OBD-I dist. assy. But you have to be able to adjust physical timing.

Adjusting the camshaft gear is the wrong way to go without looking at mechanical timing on an oscilloscope, spark timing in your case is the only way to go.

You can completely elongate the holes until there are no more holes, modify a large washer if its that far off, all you have to do is hold the dizzy from moving once the correct spark timing is set. Hopefully you wont run into issues at higher RPM, I am not a modify guy so I dont have that answer. I guess that is where the MAP in the programmed chip comes in, yes.
