Default Running slightly different size tires

I had a buddy asking me about this, he's pretty broke at the moment and has 205/45-16s all the way around with the front two in pretty sorry shape (down to the legal wear marks), well I have a pair of fairly new 205/40-16s I was going to give him, would they be ok to run in the back with the better tread 205/45s in the front temporarily? It would be a slightly larger tire diameter, but they are pretty close...

Just curious how much of a difference it would be or if it would cause too many problems in a FWD car.

as long as the similar tires are on the same axle there will be negligible difference handling

Yes, you can do it if you have to, as long as each axle has two same-sized tires, as properly noted by H22Ej1.

What kind of car does your buddy have - year, model, version, etc?

8. This is honda-tech.com, a place for sharing information about Honda and Acura cars. This isn't the place for information about wheels and tires for your grandmother's Buick or your son's Mustang; there are other websites that specialize in those cars, where people will have more specific expertise with those cars than here.
