my sunroof is making sound when closed. like rattling sound.. something hitting against something... however when it is open the sound disappeared.. i couldnt find anything that is loose
any advice?

Yea I have the same sound like a grinding or somthin...think its just because of its been through the weather...is it old? It might be time for it to be replaced? I know mine still works fine even though the noise happens...dunno any advise at first it was kinda slow just open the sunroof so u can see all the hardware and lube the stuff up...should help

 

What year Civic?

Is the sunshade open of close when the sound happens?

There is a TSB for '96-'00 Civic with moonroofs. You have to put squeak reduction tape around the opening to the moonroof.

I don't know what it could be for a '92-'95, but the assembly is totally different from the '96-'00.

On a related note, I've been getting a rattle from my moonroof on my '98. Unfortunately the rattling happens intermittently, when the glass is open or closed and when the sunshade is open or closed. I removed the glass and sunshade and reinstalled everything, reshimmed it and all. Everything was tight. The rattle was gone for a couple days, but quickly came back. It's continued to rattle whenever it wants, usually every few days.

Short of dropping the headliner and assembly, I'm not sure what the problem could be. The rattle stops if you press up on the roof right behind the dome light. I've checked and there are no loose parts sliding around the pan.

It'd be appreciated if anyone has any tips for my slightly different issue.
