SRP pistons? Shit??
Hi all.
Has anyone used SRP 8.2-1 turbo pistons and what arethey like for a street build below 400whp? They seem very cheap compared to CP, Wiseco, JE etc..

they are wonderful .
handle power wonderfully. different silicone content than JE/CP/Wiseco (they are actually made in the same facility as JE though)
i believe they actually expand less, but are considered slightly more brittle. i made well over 300 whp on them with a stock head d16a6 on pump gas, lost and injector , blew a sleeve (after about 20,000 street/track miles though), and when i pulled the engine apart they were in perfect shape still

That seems like too low of a CR to me. I have the 9.9:1 SRP's in my B16. I rebuilt my engine 32K miles ago, 17K of them were boosted. I was pushing 248whp out of my engine with 215wtq.
SRP was crap many years ago, but have come a long way since then. They are a 4xxx series aluminum so they expand less when heated so you can actually have closer piston-to-wall clearances which reduces the piston slap at startup. If you have a machine shop bore and hone your cylinders you can have them measure smaller than the 3.5 mils clearance, maybe down to 3 mils or so. These pistons are great for mild to medium builds. I would suggest getting a piston made in the 2xxx series if you are going over 500 whp because they would be stronger.
I actually calculated 0.0035" on average in my cylinders and things seem to be going well. I'm sure I'll check everything out again before I boost in the future or juice.
I recently did a compression check and I had 205 +/- 5 psi in all 4 cylinders.
