As I am typing right now it is snowing outside and I thought why not have a thread about winter driving! I thought maybe we could all share some tips or idea to overcome winter driving and winter itself!!!
I guess Ill go first lol...
Since I am in Canada and it reaches -30 degress (celcius) and sometimes the windshield washer fluid freezes so what I do is I poar a 1/3 of a bottle of wood alcohol in to a gallon of fluid and then poar inside of the reservoir... my dad friend is a chemist and said it would help from freezing and he had being doing it for years! Btw I do this every 2 fill ups of fluid...

thats pretty good. I use a pre-icer spray before I leave the car overnight and it helps decrease the buildup of ice over night. Then I can scrape my window easier in the morning.
Driving wise... a stick shift is the greatest in my opinion for snow driving. Down shifting instead of breaking. Upshifting when slipping in the snow.

My tip is stay alert. Last winter I spun out in some black ice in the outside lane, hit the curb, flew across 3 lanes into on-coming traffic (luckily it was kinda early so not alot of traffic), caught traction and stopped facing the opposite way I was going in the middle turn lane. I wasn't speeding or anything. Luckily staying alert and paying attention kept me from flying of the road and into some trees. Though my wheels was pretty eff'd up and I had to change the hub-bearing or whatever it is on that side, atleast I didn't wreck my car.

Speaking of being careful wait till i show you guys some pics of my car in winter mode... wait till you see what happened to me this morning trying to take the ice of my car....
Slowing down is the best thing, as dangerous as the e-brake can be it has also saved me a few times, its all how you use it...A good set of winter tires and driving safe always worked for me..
I just use rain x washer fluid. It has a de icer built in and it won't freeze. I slow down, don't brake too hard or fast, don't accelerate too hard or fast, don't corner too fast and I survived all last winter on baldish tires. Except for the one episode where the lady ran a red light and I got a new bumper. Which wasn't too bad, mine was chipped all to hell! haha.
we had 118 accidents from 4pm -8pm on this past saturday!! the roads were all iced over, barely ne thing on the ground... stupid drivers not slowing thinking they can drive over ice!!!
Snow tires are a must. If you don't have a spare set of rims and snow tires you're not being smart.
During major snow events, I like to stop in the middle of the instersection in front of my house, crank the wheel over, engage reverse, and do reverse doughnuts. My neighbors all applaud. Kids love it. Women swoon.

I'll hopefully be putting some winter tires on my stockies this weekend, just in case. We don't usually get to much around here but a good winter tire is a good thing to have on the side anyway.
