Default Help: Slow turnover, funny idle, Boosted GSR

Hey guys

friend just bought a 1999 boosted acura integra GSR 120k miles. It has a greddy kit on it running 8lbs.

I know nothing about the tune or what it dynod. But he says hes havin troubles, says it turns over really slow, but starts, and when it idles it kind of idles funny.

I suggested it needs retuned, and that possibly its the timing. But i didnt know why the starter would turn over slow?

Anyone have any answers.

On my car, I had one symptom similar to the ones that you described and that was turning over really slow.

At first, I thought it was my starter going out. But after testing some stuff out, I switched the battery out to a brand new one and it cranks up strong as an ox.

Hopefully, having a new battery would be a solution to the slow cranking.

I dont know why a bad battery would cause a funny idle though. But then again i dont know what "funny" means either. Definitely check battery though, then plug/wire/firing order. I dont know if any of you have accidentally got that confused but it kinda causes same prob. should'nt be timing though cause ive had my car 1 tooth off on exhuast cam b4 and it wouldnt start at all.

Get the alternator tested also. New battery helps... but only until the alternator can't keep up.

rode in the car tonight, was going on heresay earlier

The idle goes from 800-1600, up and down. Car boosts fine, holds boost. It didnt turn over slow, turned over normal speed but took a lot of turn overs to get a start, and then it just seemed like it didnt REALLY wanna run.

i think hes running a 18g turbo kit at 7 lbs, any estimates on horsepower? I know its not cool to ask, but its a bone stock gsr, and greddy is a common kit, just curious if anyone knows.

Wouldn't usually ask a stupid question like that, but just curious.

I dont think its the battery, but i dont understand why it took so long to start, im used to my stock b16a hatch, like three turnovers and it starts----' chh chh chh vroom'

anyway. thanks for the help so far guys.

Check the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) could be dirty, or stickin take it off then soak it in WD-40 for a while. Should atleast show improvement if thats the prob.

sounds like he needs a proper tune.

there are lots of settings for cranking/starting/idling in a proper tunable ecu that takes some time to figure out.
