Default Rotary Engine/ Transmission

Hey guys whats up.

Recently, I've been thinking about rotary engines a lot. And out of of the blue, I thought what would it be like to have a rotary engine/rwd swap?

Is it possible? I know tons of custom fabrication will be required but the main issue I'm concerned about is fitment issues of the engine/tranny say from a mazda rx8.

I recent saw the thread on H-T about the EK hatch with the 13B engine. That was pretty crazy! But the downside that I saw in that was that it was kept as a FWD with the K-Series tranny.

What I kept wondering about was would there be a problem having the transmission fit correctly without any fitment issues? If that were the problem in the EK hatch, would that possibly be a problem for our Integra's?

ALL THOUGHTS ARE WELCOME!!!

The 13B engine is nice if you build it right, go with a 13BREW (3rd Gen Rx-7) if you want to expect much out of it.

Personally I'd stick with FWD. you could have a Fully built turbo 500whp K series for cheaper then a Rotary swap.

You want a rotary? buy a Rx-7 or Rx-8.

rotary motors are a lot smaller than your typical b18 im sure stuffing it under the hood wouldnt be a prob after a bunch of fab. work. You hardest part is going to be the fab. work for rwd. Honda did make a rwd integra in japan for a year or two idealy getting your hads on one of them would be your best best but..... finding one and shipping it hear make it grossly unrealistic. Your proly gunna spend a few years on this one

Honda made an AWD Integra, not a RWD one.

The factory Honda rear wheel drivetrains (aside from maybe the S2000) are notoriously weak, due to them being connected to small, low-powered engines. The AWD Integra in Japan came only with a D16 SOHC engine.

You'd be much better off doing custom fab work in the rear to be able to bolt up the factory driveshaft and differential from whatever car the engine comes from.

I actually remember reading about someone on here working on a project car (Integra I think) with a GM LSx engine and an RX-7 rear suspension and drivetrain. Unfortunately the project was never completed and I think the guy ended up selling the car.

heh I know the guy who put a Vette motor in the EK hatch. He's from my area. He's had tons of cars, and I think also has a Lotus Exige right now.

Import auto salvage in NC built a all wheel drive DC2 a while ago. Larry had alot of time in that car, sold it and the new owner made it RWD and now drifts it. The beginning of the build was in a tuner magazine at the time of the build.

Thats exactly the kind of problem that I think that would be a roadblock.

I know that the Mid Engine H22 RWD Integra GSR, that car was an insane build up! but the thing about that car is that it doesn't seem as if it drifts all too well o.O Maybe weight distribution is off?

So maybe weight distribution with a renesis 13B engine/tranny in a teg if all the work were fabbed correctly would make it a good drifter/ track car rather than a FWD platform?

youll spend more money trying to keep the rotary running then it would cost to build the car lol
if you want something to drift the rotary isnt a very good option, you would be better off with a f20c or sr20
