OT: peeps in nyc
Never left my car overnight in a midtown garage before. **** is so expensive that I refuse to drive in unless my company is going to pay for the parking.
Best bet would be to park on the east side (1 to 3rd ave) since it's a little bit cheaper.

Finding a cheap garage in Manhattan is like finding a virgin at the prom...pretty damn impossible. Garages on the East side are a little cheaper but not much, alot of the "yuppies" who live there now are starting to get cars so they can drive to the Hamptons on the weekends haha, so prices are going up. I dont even know where you found a garage thats $20 a night. Unfortunately if you want to spend less than $20 you'll probably have to find a spot on the street. Which I know you don't want to do. But where in midtown are you looking? East , West...40's 50's? I know there are a couple in the West 40's that aren't too bad at night.

again...
leave the R home man!
doesn't matter the garage...its the people working in the garage you should be worried about...
If you're worried about the people working in the garage, sometimes the garages that are attached to other things ie: apartment buildings, office buildings, hotels etc...are a little more "conscientious" (probably spelled that wrong) about how they treat/guard the cars in there. Thats in contrast to the independent garages that just rent space in the sublevels of other buildings. Just a tip if it helps any.
If you park in manhattan, be prepared to pay a premium!
I know one guy who is crazy enough to park his PY ITR on manhattan streets
but he shall remain nameless

Not over night, but I usually park on the streets in the city during daytime like in SoHo or 5th.
In that Pic I was parked there for atleast 5 hours, and your right about not overnight but still was parked in NYC during the nght and was safe.
The weird thing or good thing is that there is allway trafic and peeps walking around, so for the most part it would scare off any half-*** theives.
As for keeping my car in a garage, yes I do Every night, some exceptions...
Edit: 49th and 2nd, thats midtown aint it?

my car survived being parked in nyc
phew. the staff of the parking was pretty professional. it was connected to the hotel, so it has to secure its image.
My itr almost got flooded on the westside highway though.
thanks for all the advice
