What kind of car?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't mess around. You can warp your clutch disc if you make any wrong adjustments.
There's more to it than just that.
Don't ask me how I know?

Go download the Helms manual.
Search around for it, you can get it for free somewhere. I cant remember the site, but you can try isohunt.com or mininova.org

Loosen the gold nut, and spin the other one.
Loosen it whichever way you're holding the part.
If it's still in the car, wrench on the right side, push up. (gold nut)
Don't forget about adjusting Lock nut A & B also.

i managed to get my lock nut off my push rod by holding the grey 12 mm part and turning the gold locknut clockwise.

can someone tell me which way i turn the rod to shorten my free play?

To shorten freeplay you want to make it so the rod is longer, so use a flashlight and see which way makes it longer. Without babbling on or being there I can't really explain it any better than that. Good luck!
