Inspeciton past due - 97 Civic
I posted a couple threads a week or two ago, and I haven't had much luck.
Here's my story ('97 civic coupe EX D16Y8 automatic)
My signals do not auto cancel. We tried replacing the MultiFunction switch. That didn't work. This only happens in cold weather. I have "loose" steering which is definately related. It is always temporary (it will magically work again 4 months from now).
My mechanic tells me (at my second appt after the first attempt failed before thanksgiving) that he doesn't even do work inside the steering column. Its either dealership (e.g. thieves) or DiY.
I have heard something about a "clockspring," but that's the only "useful" thing I've heard so far, and I know nothing about steering columns.
Please help, my inspection is way past due!!!

first off. take off steering wheel.. here is info on how to do that.

(civics 92-00 are fairly similiar so dont get scared as i try to explain to you what is probably wrong)
after wheel is taken out you will see something like this.

under the red circle there is a tab that is suppose to bend up.
that bend up tab is suppose to go into that slot as you can see in this side view of a steering wheel.

im guessing your probably is that tab is bent flat or near flat and thats why its not working correctly. just bend it with pliers or something and you should be good.

Although, the pic sets were not extremely clear to me... is this in the haynes manual or anything?
I didn't see a red circle in that pic...
