Why the hell would you take that sensor out and run the car in the first place?

It will most certainly cause ECM and TCM issues. They have no way to know how to set ignition curves, fuel maps and shift points without that sensor.
What possesed you to remove that of all pieces?

on this topic.. do these sensors tend to go bad? My car randomly overheats.. gunna change the thermostat tomorrow but this ones about a year old. I have really really hot heat too.. but the temp will go up to half way or a little higher sometimes, and now i've noticed the cooling fans are always on, and as P_adams knows, its been colllld around here at night, shouldn't need the cooling fans on.. but the engine is really hot after shut down, even if im not hammering on it, so i don't think its the fans.

Two different sensors.... One is a sensor (variable resistor) which sends engine coolant temp info to the ECM, the other is a coolant tempurature switch, preset to turn the coolant fans on at a pre-determined tempurature.
Here's what the fan switch looks like:

Here's what the Sensor (ECM) looks like:

The problem could be blockage in the radiator, a Thermostat which decided to take a sabatical or you could be loosing coolant...

I might have the same problem.

my 96 EX accord is overheating after driving a for over 30 minutes. At idle or in traffic the temp rises towards the redzone. I have to rev the motor to get it to lower.

I have a new radiator, new thermostat, new hoses, and new coolant.

I first tried to remove any air from the system.

But the problem came back last night...

and yes i am also having a Check Engine light come on and the D4 light blink...which usually means a TCM problem.

Im wondering why the TCM error light would blink if the coolant sensor sends info the the ECM.

I really dont have much parts to replace on the car now...just the coolant temp sensor and the coolant fan temp switch.

I also know my fan is working as it comes on when the car is shut off.

Your problem may still be the thermostat. New thermostats have been known to be bad.
Check this link out, and read under 'Transmission', then 'Overheating.

http://techauto.awardspace.com/transmission.html

As quoted from the link:

Troubleshooting: Thermostat. If the thermostat temperature is too low the car will refuse to shift because the temperature sensor tells the TCU not to shift on a cold motor. To troubleshoot, try a hotter temperature thermostat and check for low coolant.

You always can try an OEM thermostat.

Default Re: Removing the Coolant Temp Sensor cause the Engine and D4 light to flash?

I need some help. I am having a similiar issue with my 88 honda prelude SI. My engine light went on and the engine light code is telling me its a coolant temperature issue (blinks 6 short times). Sometimes when I start it the engine light does not go on (in which the blinking light is still active when I check) and it runs fine. Other times when I start it, the engine light does go on (cold starts I've noticed) and I smell gasoline very strongly- so this tells me whatever sensor is going off -having to do with my coolant temperature- is causing the car to run very rich. Which sensor is this? My fan does kick on when the temp is hot enough, although only one of the fans kick on and the other does not. I know there is a sensor at the bottom of the radiator, which I have to drain the coolant to get to, and can this sensor still be bad if one of the fans is still working. Are both fans suppose to run for the radiator? Or is one for the AC ?(my AC doesn't work) Is there another sensor somewhere else that I don't know about? For the fans? The needle on the control panel stays at center and the car is not over heating. Any input would be great. Thanks!
