drain the fluid and replace with synchromesh. if you go to a chevy or GM dealership you can get the real good stuff cause thats what they use in the vette transmissions. its kinda of expensive tho.
if you dont want to pay as much just go to autozone or pep boys and get the synchromesh they sell.

**** works wonders. i bought a 2000 gsr with 50,xxx on it a few years back and almost every gear grinded. i took the trans fluid out and replaced it with synchromesh and within 500 miles it was like abrand new trans with no grinding

it doesnt gaurentee anything. its just helps free up the synchros which make it easier to shift again. it doesnt always work. it all depends on the severity of the sychros themselves. but its a cheap fix compared to buying a whole new trans or buying synchros and rebuilding

Yea, I hear the syncromesh works real well. That's something I have to do. A few months a go, I bought a new tranny because my old one had no third. It grinded so long you couldn't get it in anymore. So I bought a tranny, from some guy I didn't know, bad idea. Put the trans in, and guess what. Third gear grinds. So I spent 500 bucks to go from no third, to a grinding third. Think I will go get some syncromesh this weekend. I will have to go to the dealer probably. I asked the guys at autozone and I got the gasface look. They had no effin clue what I was talking about. Which, they never do.

autozone will hire aboslutly anyone. somone can get fired from working at burger king and go fill out an application at autozone and start the next day.

i remember one time i went there for a simple exhaust manifold gasket for a b-series. the gaskets are all the same. the guy says follow me and takes me to the aisle with the ford chevy and dodge header gaskets for the known v8 engines. then he proceeds to pick up a ford header gasket and say here you go. i walked out and havent been there since.

totally off topic i know but im sure im nto the only one that deals with autozone people like this haha

The best synchromesh fluid is genuine GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. The Mobil1 and Pennzoil and Quaker State synchromesh stuff are NOT the same, despite what people may claim here. That stuff is awesome. Unfortunately I think it's being phased out. If you can find some at a GM dealer it will probably run you $10-$15 a quart.

I've been using this stuff in my car the past 5 years for over 100K miles. Tranny has 272K original miles on it with no grinds whatsoever.

But I can tell you that when my original clutch went out back at 135K miles, it was very hard to shift. When I pulled the clutch out, I found that pieces of metal around the clutch disc springs had broken off. That's probably what has happened to yours.

I'll be headed to the dealership then definitely. Thanks for that. Yea, I had the couldn't shift or hard to shift problem too. When I pulled my tranny off, I too had springs laying everywhere. I think two of them had popped out, replaced my clutch and trans (screwed it up having to get it into gear) and a week later my car was totaled.

my car did the same thing. Obviously the synchros are going out but i need my tranny to hold just about a month more so i just got some shifter bushings. That actually hellped a good bit, but like I said the synchros are the problem. I kept driving with my tranny messing up like that and eventually my shift linkage fell! (thumbs down)
