gsr question
hey guys! one of my camshaft holder was broken, i had one laying around from my old gsr so i swapped them. It directly touches the camshaft. Its the last holder besides the vtec solenoid. my teacher said that i should have done that because the wear patter is different in everyengine. he told me that i have two options, either get a new head or take it to a machine shop to the the camshaft assembly balanced! what do you guys think?
Your teacher is right to some extent. Every engine does have a different wear pattern. The caps for the cams do not have any cam bearings so the best idea would be to take the cam out and mic the inside of the cap with it torqued down to see if it is out of round and compare it to the others. I have heard of people swapping them out with no problems but I myself have not done it. It could cause excessive wear if it is out of round. I really dont think camshaft balancing would do anything. If anything the machine shop would line hone the caps.
