Icon6 Just did a 98+ Conversion on my 97 and I have a question..

When I finally installed the rear bumper (such a pain in the ***) I realized the muffler and the muffler opening aren't aligned properly making the muffler rub up against the bumper.

Can I align the muffler? Maybe drop it an inch and move it a little to the left?

remove the axle back section, make a couple rough measurements. then take it to a muffler shop. have them bend/extend the hangers so that it should sit in the desired spot. i've done it before

it will be super easy to remove the muffler section (2 bolts and 3 rubber hangers i believe)

the hard part will be figuring out how to modify the metal hangers on the actual muffler so it sits in the right place.

i'd get a rough measurement first to see how far off it sits from center. then remove the muffler and figure out how you can modify the hangers to get the desired position. may have to cut and weld the hangers or just heat the hanger up and bend it (thats where the muffler shop comes in)

the process will require more brains than mechanical skills. its very do-able for someone who doesnt know much.

Drive it as is to the nearest muffler shop, they will know what to do. Dont be scared, you have nothing to worry about.

Very easy work. I modified an SI Exhaust to fit on my GSR. I have torches and welders though. Just take it to a muffler shop. They shouldn't charge you a lot to do it.

You could probably just bend the hangers yourself. Pick up a small hand-held torch with a MAP gas bottle at the hardware store if you need to. MAP gas burns hotter than those propane torches. They only run about $30 and have many other uses.
