6 dollar solution for 4-1 header dents.
For those with lower hanging 4-1 design headers, this could work for you.
From my local hardware store I purchased a 1/8 inch thick aluminum strap, and 4 stainless screw clamps. The grainy pictures tell the rest. Just make sure you "overbend" the strap so that when tightening it's snug.

Aluminum is not strong enough to prevent real dents. But it looks it's good for preventing scratches and small dents.....
I figured that if I use mild steel, it would rust, and most likley transpose the shock from the impact. I picked out some stuff that was thick and really strong... Point taken... time will tell.

I wish I could strap it but I can't even get a sheet of paper between the back of the primaries. I was going for a one-time smack solution. I don't expect it to take repeated impacts, although It should "relieve" the impact, (crush).

IMO It looks like it's not going to absorb any impact. It will protect against scratches. The SS tubes are now stronger than that alu piece. You need something that is stronger than the tubes.
You can stiffen the Alu sheets by bending it with a cross section of an W.....

nice looking piece!! should do well against light scratches(speed bumps especially) but I doubt it will withstand heavy hits. Maybe if you could get some custom stronger tubing made in a similar fashion that would help more with harder hits...
overall great idea though

Why is when someone comes up with a good Idea on this board, all you hear is it will never work, that wont work....blah. I think thats a good idea. The only way to see if it will work or not is if he bottoms out and dents the header. The metal should protect very well. DIY
Looks good and thanks for posting this!
I think I'll be doing that when I get my car working again.

that actually looks like a good job. i decided to go the pre-made way... it's pretty thick!

It will definitely help, because it will spread out the force as opposed to having the impact on a tiny area. Kind of like an airbag vs. dash board.
Nothing can offer full protection.

I hear the buzzing already!!
Seriously, have you started the car up with those in place? No matter how tight those things are, I'm thinking the resonance is going to make them buzz!!
It's an excellent idea though, we just need to improve on it.. Let us know how it turns out!
