Default what is this plug?

this plug is under the dash coming out of the main harness on the passenger side and i am just curious as to what it is an why the terminals are jumped together. first i was thinking an access port but the car is obd0 originally and it is converted to obd1 but i never added an access plug so... i am just wondering. anyone know?

IIRC its used when checking/adjusting your ignition timing on 90-91's. I wanna say the 88-89's had this connector under the hood near the driver side headlight w/ a yellow rubber cap. I wouldnt leave it jumped.

88-91 EF's did not have the feature where the CEL blinks like it does on the 92+ cars. On our cars the red LED on the ecu flashes for the code readout.

It's not there on the EF's, but you said your car was converted to OBD1, so it probably came with your conversion harness.

Just remove the jumper wire and forget about it. Only jump it when your check engine light is on.

i thought it was near the driver-side shock tower, but i mean i dont own an 88-89 personally so can't say for sure. just thought i'd throw it out there, i very well may be wrong though lol.

i am not gon na worry about it ill just un jump it. as far as i know thoguh it has been jumped for the past few months. i had to change my main harness cause the guy before hacked the original one to death. so my main harness is from a 91 and i am 98% sure that the plug comes out of the main harness and i did not add it when i did the obd1 swap. but yeh, i will just unjump it and leave it at that. the whole thing came about because my friend was talking about timing his 95 civic and said he had to jump those 2 terminals and i remembered that i saw that same plug when i changed my main harness, and the terminals were jumped. and it just got me thinking. anyways. thanks for the info guys.

its no problem having it jumped all the time but its pointless. it will only blink when you have a cel

Nope, on the various 89's Ive come across, the little connector comes out of the harness between the driver side headlight and motor mount.

Some of you guys are funny, EF's NEVER had the cel blinking feature. I'll say it again, our cars used the LED on the ecu instead.

Just b/c this guys' car was converted to obd1 doesnt mean that connector magically converts into the 'CEL blinking' connector nor does it mean someone added it. IIRC 90-91's came with it from the factory.

well for the past 3 months i have been throwing a code for my tps, and it has always blinked the code seven through the cel on the cluster. i unjumped the plug and it doesnt anymore, the cel just stays on. so i guess it was incorperated into my jumper harnes or something. anyways. thanks for the help guys. on too other probs! go look at the "dpfi what is this?" thread i posted! haha/

I stand corrected. It appears your car was modified to use that connector. Usually this is not the case.
