Mounting bolts for Excedy clutch
The factory manual for a 1991 Honda Civic DX (D15B2) calls for special 12 point bolts to attach the pressure plate to the flywheel. When we removed the clutch we found an American aftermarket pressure plate that was attached with regular bolts. However, the clearance between the mounting holes and the side of the pressure plate on the Excedy OEM clutch is so small that only the special bolts can be used: regular bolts will not fit.
Does anyone know why Excedy designed the clutch in that manner which mandated the use of these special and expensive 12 point bolts?

They designed the clutch to be used with the oem hardware, which makes sense. It's been awhile since i've seen one of their oem replacements, but its probably identical to the design of the oem pressure plate, which again makes sense as to why only the 12pt. bolts will work.
And since there isn't much that you can do about it, you'll need to purchase a set or find some of the 12pt. bolts.

the bolts you have are not the oem factory bolts... the factory ones are 17mm 12pnt. i think.

Indeed they are. Exedy, the retail side of Daiken Clutch Company, made your oem clutch and about 98% of other japanese oem clutches. Whatever they recommend, I recommend doing.
