Shifting/Transmission questions
Okay, take two, thanks to an inconvenient refresh page keyboard shortcut...
Hi guys, I've been working on my 1991 CRX DX for a while, but as a new entry to car self-maintenance and modification, I'm progressing along slowly, using this website here as a guide:
http://crx.honda-perf.org/articles/b...udgetmods.html
I'm moving on and would like to perform the short shifter mod next. I don't want buy one; I'd rather make it if that's considered a viable and more economical option; especially if it is as simple as cutting the rod down an inch or so. I recently got my new ****, and I'll be getting the Energy Suspension bushings and a new boot as well (as the one I have is torn and beat significantly.)
But the one thing I'm a little concerned about is the replacement of the transmission fluid with Redline MTL. I'm running a DX manual 5-speed with nearly 200,000 miles, and the transmission is rough. It's solid, doesn't miss a shift, but it is rough. I've spent time studying and attempting understand the way MTL's work, and I think I think I'm getting it, but it's disheartening to see a unusually high amount of poor reviews when this is used as a replacement for stock fluid; some people saying as much as its destroyed their transmission entirely. I suppose it theoretically could be possible to blame this on viscosity or syncro friction, but this sounds a lot more to me like poor treatment and care. But I would be lying if I said it didn't make my heart beat a little faster. So, is it possible to switch transmission fluids over from the manufacturer's recommendation and not suffer a setback, or should I stay safe and change it out with Honda MTL?

Cutting your shifter won't change the pivot point, which is what a short shifter is supposed to do. Short shifters pivot high for a short throw, where as your stock shifter pivots low with a long throw.
