Default 91' Accord, Sports light on, TCU may be broken.

Ok, so I have several problems with my fiance's 91 accord lx, 4 door, automatic.

1. The check engine light is on and when I checked the code it gave me a code 12, which is for the ERG valve.

2. When in park or neutral the car revs up to about 1500, then down to 1000, the back up and down for as long as it is not in gear.

3. The sports mode light is stuck on. It is always on and I have never seen it off.

4. The only two gears that seem to work are 2nd and 3rd, which I need to manually put the car into. 1st acts just like 2nd, and 4th acts just like 3rd.

So I have tried everything that I can think of and I have spent countless hours on google, but I have nothing resolved. All of these problems seem to be pretty common in 91 accords, and I believe that it is either one big problem, or two separate problems. If it is two problems I figured that #1 and #2 are related and #3 and #4.

So this is what I have tried. I put injector fluid in my tank, and I cleaned the screen on the Idle air control valve, which seemed at first to stop the EGR code, but it just takes longer for the check engine light to come on.

I have taken the TCU and ECU out to look at it but I don't really know what I am looking for. Mostly, I have researched the problem, and I have the accord manual. But nobody ever comes back on their posts and tells everyone what finally fixed their car, they just stop posting. So hopefully I can get this figured out, I could use some really help with this, and I am tight on money. And I WILL post the results of everything I try. lol

Thanks.

For the idle condition (up/down) make sure the coolant system is completely filled and has no air bubbles. The Fast Idle Control valve (FICV) is tempurature sensitive and samples coolant as part of it's function.
The TCM may indeed be defective (very common problem). It's relatively cheap (Ebay) and is pretty easy to get to.
I'd also suggest flushing the Transmission fluid, only because of the mulitple conditions you discribe.

right now I am awaiting an answer from justanswer.com which seems to be a pretty good site, but it does charge a little. I have recently tried some more injector cleaner, and some engine oil cleaner, but to no avail. I also have some new hoses to put on, as I recently noticed that many of the hoses around the idle air control valve seem bloated or leaky. But the guy at autozone said that those mostly just heat up the idle air control valve so that it doesn't get frozen closed.
