Default 4 wire o2 in place of 1 wire?

Can you use a 4 wire o2 sensor in place of a single wire one and only hook up the signal wire? I just had to change the exhaust mani on my 89 std and the threads of the o2 sensor got messed up when i went to put it on the new manifold. I have 4 or 5 good 4 wire ones but no single wires and i wont have the money to replace it for a while.
