vtec "cross-over" /throttle quesion
Does the amount of throttle determine if the other cam kicks in at 6k rpm? I slowly got up to 6k and the other cam didn't kick in. Twice. When I tried it again but with more throttle it worked (noticeable sound and power difference; neither were there with slow, light throttle) Any thoughts?
Never had any issues with mine kicking in no matter how slowly I accelerate to the vtec point. I hear a faint little blip in the engine noise where I can hear it kick in when I'm accelerating slowly, but it kicks in every time.
there isn't an extra cam under your valve cover (other than the two already there)....it's simply switching to a higher lobe on the cams.
and yes throttle position determines vtec engagement along with other things like oil pressure and water temp.

No...he wasn't making fun of single cams. He was joking around about the fact that someone asked if it was an R18 (single cam) or a K20 (dual cam), when it obviously had to be a dual cam engine, according to the OP's question.

I personally think the R18 is a pretty cool car compared to the others that are in its class. Id much rather have a base R18 than a hyundai eleantra or a Corolla or somethng like that. THey look clean with just some nice rims and get really good gas mileage. (not rice)
I would never mod the car though, dumb IMHO but ive thought about it from the other side and if you just want your car to sound sporty and have a little more power theres nothing wrong with that.
for the R18's
